If true, how do you explain why LSU gets the Gumps, TAMU and Ole Miss as permanent opponents without considering the begging from those ADs due to recruiting in La and Houston? LSU and TAMU are already battling for Houston/Beaumont and all three of those are always in Louisiana. I get it that NIL has changed a few things but this is intentional to create “rivals” that LSU should avoid because NIL or more likely transfer portal will get regulated.

If anything LSU should have gotten the Mississippi schools and Arkansas. Arkansas has actually been more of a rival longer than those others if you’re looking from a geographical footprint perspective.
And before some a-hole jumps in about TAMU and the length of the series, let me remind you that Arkansas has been much more recent and longer. The history with those epic battles has made this game a special one for me at least.

Edit: OH Yeah
GTH Ole Miss, GTH
The entire state of Alabama
I almost feel bad for you TAMU. ALMOST.

I can't even tell what you're melting about

Edit: Just realized who made the OP. Pay no attention, you melt about everything.

LSU had little history with Arkansas prior to 92. Even though bear used to beat LSU like a drum, LSU has a long history with Bama. They are a natural rival. If we can only get one Mississippi school that choice is very easy.

I will be thrilled if that is our three non-rotating. In fact those are the three I’d most prefer.

ETA meaning Ole Miss, Bama and A&M

The Arkansas series has actually been really good. Their fans hate LSU with a passion. Unfortunately the game doesn’t get much national attention because Arkansas has typically just played spoiler.

I know that ATM has felt forced since they joined the SEC. However it was a very heated rivalry when we played consistently years ago. The two schools have much in common, outside of their strange traditions, so it actually works well beyond just sports.

Dude, I like your style but you are overlooking one important factor: it's all a money game. The Mrs. schools and Ar-KANSAS do not generate enough revenue.

I don't understand how this amounts to a "screwing". All teams in the SEC are a rival. If you ask 10 LSU fans who our rival is, you will probably get 10 different answers. I really don't care who they put on the schedule, the objective is still the same: win all your games. Over time the power shifts from one team to another and the schedule changes from one year to the next. So you're always going to be playing someone on the upswing and someone on the downswing and each year presents new challenges and opportunities. I think people sometimes put too much stress on how scheduling is done.

Just win baby.

I'd also like to understand how this affects recruiting . The college football environment has become completely fluid. Kids commit, they transfer, they seek better deals and NIL money. Players may stay 1 year, 3 years or no years. It's in constant motion. At the end of the day your job is still the same. Run a high quality program, recruit coaches and players continuously, develop your talent, win your games. If you're good at it you will attract the players you need who fit your program. Not sure why these other factors are obstacles. It's all just noise to me.

But maybe I'm missing something here.

ALL were preseason Top 10 teams last year. Definitely another screw job on the Tigers.

SEC continues to try and formulate rivalries where they don’t exist.

LSU rivals were Tulane and Ole Miss. both fizzled. We generally agree that we hate both schools in AL and one more being UF. If not for the Iron Bowl and the natural in-state rivalry, both of those teams represent rivalry games for us. UF being a permanent opponent always made for a nasty game. Auburn almost always gives us their best shot. Bama is Bama for decades.

EaTmE is a wannabe and Arky is better at basketball and baseball. They’ve fielded a few teams w NFL-caliber players but can’t consistently compete. Both schools are just an annoyance to us. Kinda like MSU.

Every opposing fan base hates LSU. They have been a major contender most years since 2000.

You can be sure those will NOT be LSU’s 3 opponents. They will get 2 top half teams like every other top program. NONE of those are top half teams, so they will get at most one of them.

Arkansas Is not a rival and doesn’t come close to the history LSU has with Ole Piss, Bama, Auburn, Florida and most of the SEC. LSU even has more history as a rival with ATM than Arkansas.

The only people who think of LSU and Arkansas as a rival are Arkansas fans.
