SW was a meddler, forced Pelini on O undermined him refused to let him hire who he wanted. Didn’t like WW so he threw him under the bus with his liberal BS.Backed into JJ , his assistant found him.He was a complete control freak who Fd himself over.

This needs to be stickied every time we’re looking for a new coach and the “but WHO would be even hire?” crowd comes crawling out of the woodwork. Like there weren’t 25+ coaches who would’ve functionally been better hires than BK in 2021
The thing is lane didn’t even require any imagination.
He was young. He had spent a few very successful years in saban rehab then 3 very successful years at FAU and then was coming off a sugar bowl season at OM.
He had been recruiting the south. He had been a successful coordinator in the south and had been a successful coach in the south in the SEC.
Scott didn’t think he was good PR though with how lane is with women so he was lazy and threw a bunch of money at a guy who had never been in the south was near retirement and instantly showed up and had an affair
Great job Scotty!

Member when he fired Wade to save football
Posted on 1/2/26 at 10:35 am to T1gerNate
The disaster was firing him mid season. He needed to be replaced but not the way we did it. Look around. The chaos you see is the result of an unprofessional, poorly planned social media lynching.
I hope Kiffin is a strong enough leader to get us back to 8 wins in a couple years.

What was he supposed to do? Not pay the man that coached the 2019 championship team. Some of you I swear, have nothing going on upstairs. You just want to complain.
Ed's contract should've been commensurate with his market value. IOW, he agreed to pay Ed far more than he was worth. Had O threatened to leave LSU he would've taken a huge pay cut.

Dan Lanning

Cristobal and technically Cignetti
Cignetti? Are you stupid with this shite? Nobody knew who he was.
When you needed someone to rebuild a program after that massive shite show Orgeron left, you hire Kelly. He did bring organization to the program and at least got it respectful from 2 straight years of pure shite.

Remember when “alignment” was the key phrase after BK was hired? This was simply political alignment with Gov-LSU prez-AD and BK.
We now have a new alignment: win football games and don’t be a liberal pussy.

Dan Lanning was at UGA when we fired Orgeron.
Cristobal was at Oregon and moved on.
Both could have been had.
Scott was too lazy and incompetent to try

Cignetti I admitted was not realistic however he had been a head coach for a number of years at that point and isn’t that the ADs job?
Find the best possible coach?

So because Orgeron sucked you hire a guy for 10 years with a massive buyout who had never coached in the south, never recruited in the south, had never coached in a major conference etc etc.
I also note that you didn’t even attempt to address that Kiffin should have topped the list for multiple reasons in 2021 but Scotty refused to interview him.

also gave Ed that stoopid buyout.
quote:yes, there was no need to extend Orgeron or give him a fat raise.
What was he supposed to do? Not pay the man that coached the 2019 championship team. Some of you I swear, have nothing going on upstairs.
Remember, the rationale behind hiring O was to pay him less (because he was a last-ditch hire and had a terrible prior head coaching history) and spend more on the coaching staff. Now, I thought that was absurd at the time, and still do.
But even after 2019, that theory should've still been in place. And most important, O was at ZERO risk to leave. No other school was coming to poach him.
Ultimately, one of the main reasons you give coaches a raise and extend them is the risk of them leaving. That didn't exist with O.
So Scott didn't need to extend O or give him a raise or bigger buyout.
And of course, we all saw the implosion after 2019, so O proved he didn't deserve a single penny of that extension.

I’ve seen this mentioned a few times and given the meddling with the football program I’m not surprised. Gotta think that spilled over to baseball.
The only person who seemed upset of relevance was Mulkey and that’s because she knew that Scott was the only AD who would spend big money on women’s BB.

It aint too hard to hire someone for $100 million bucks GUARANTEED!
Looks like he wiffed on both swings....

Neither had Saban or Miles.

What about Lane Kiffin?
You know the guy who revolutionized Saban on offense won big instantly at FAU and had just taken OM to the Sugar Bowl?
Also your implication is that you care more about winning the press conference rather than winning the hire.
Interviewing and conducting background checks is hard but is necessary.
Dan Lanning would have been an eye popping hire but was a guy who was young had coordinated an innovative defense and coached and recruited all over our recruiting footprint.
Cristobal clearly has preached toughness, young and had coached and recruited all over our footprint
Rumors about Kelly’s work habits came from ND as soon as we hired him.
Compound that with a guy who already was known as being lazy in recruiting entering an area of the country he had never been made a 10 year $100million contract a clear mistake and that was noted by everyone at the time of the hire.

you're conveniently Monday Morning quarterbacking. And I wanted Riley, but was impressed with the Kelly hire when made.I don't recall anyone 2nd guessing the Kelly hire and complaining that Kiffin should have been hired. Link me to your posts at the time.
