Scott Woodward should have never fired Will Wade.

Firing Will Wade was the self imposed men's basketball program death penalty. LSU athletics should have just dealt with the consequences of keeping Will Wade. LSU would have been in a good contract position to retain Will Wade and Woody could have put some good incentives and goals in the contract to potentially satisfy his NCAA buddies.
It was not only a very poor decision by Scott Woodward to fire Will Wade from a basketball perspective but from a business perspective the decision is looking a lot worse. Now LSU is stuck with a big contract with a new coach who can't win because of substandard coaching and substandard recruiting and these inadequacies result in a basketball team that cannot generate enough excitement in the PMAC beyond an Evangelical church service. Which translates into very poor revenue.
Woody should have never fired Will Wade. Just a terrible decision and two years in the row we are reminded of this debacle of a decision.
The reminder won't end until this program starts winning at least a little bit.
But no. Woody had to get his guy in place.

Firing Wade was one decision, and while I'd have like to keep him its whatever.
Hiring McMahon was a completely different decision, it felt like Scott didn't even interview anyone else just hired the most popular name from the Mid majors.

College basketball may be one of the dirtiest sports of all time. To win in this league you have to have a coach like Wade. I'm not saying we need to hire Wade back but he had the right idea. We need someone with that same mindset. LSU will never win with a coach like McMahon.

McMahon was definitely a public image hire. Tate (and by extension Woody) care a lot about the public image of the school. They hired McMonotone because of him being clean cut and level-headed. Wanted zero risks with the NCAA breathing down our neck in football and basketball. Same thing with the Kelly hire- these CEO clean cut archetypes of coaches were a complete 180 from the hotheaded, rough cut Orgeron and Wade.
Still think we should have kept Wade though. Losing is just as embarrassing (if not way more) than having a hothead coach.

LSU will never be a men’s basketball school, we might have a miracle run one year, but we definitely deserve better that’s the product on the court right now. We’re the laughing stock of the SEC.

This is a hoot. So long as LA is full of the shiftless, indolent welfare parasites and corrupt local and state employees, its "public image" will remain what it is-a mob of self-seeking atavists many of who struggle to utter a grammatical sentence.

Doesn't change the fact Tate is obsessed with painting us in a positive light though.

This is sad because being relevant in basketball is so much fun for the students and fans. I was at LSU during the Derrick Taylor through Chris Jackson and beginning of the Shaq days and camped out 2 days prior with friends on rotating shifts just to get student tickets to games. That's how relevant basketball was during the late '80s early '90s. I want that back.

Other than a serious blow to Scott Woodward's ego, what is the reasoning for not admitting a mistake and bringing Will Wade back in 2024? "In light of official findings by the NCAA, once the truth was separated from hype and fiction, we determined that terminating Will Wade was excessive punishment. We welcome Coach Wade back to LSU. Boot Up."
Not sure if Wade would go for it, but for enough money I'd hope he would. The program would be back in the NCAA tournament in short order.

I can't see that happening but I'm not opposed to the idea. The initial excitement would be pretty high.

He lied to the AD and the President. You don’t bring back someone you do not trust.
