2020 gave up nearly 90 more yards per game than this year's D.

2020 was an all SEC schedule due to the Covid effect on CFB. When you exclude Grambling and Army I think you'll find those numbers become very similar.

On3 podcast with Shea was talking about Speights and how he was used at OR State. He's not been good but looking at his play at OR State there's no way he forgot how to play football. Coaching and scheme are just that bad.

That's the concerning part. We don't have elite talent, but we have 3 5 star players on D. Multiple mid to high 4 star talent and the portal players were considered quality transfers. There was talk before the season we would have one of the best front sevens in CFB. We are failing on the DL, LB and secondary. There isn't a single position group that I would even grade as average.

That's not players. That's coaching.

But you had guys like ricks that was a stud and would force/get a turnover or something. We don’t have anyone that can do that. Nobody is playing even halfway decent it seems.

Remember that 2020 team went on and upset a top 5 ranked UF on the road.

Exactly this. These guys don't just all of a sudden suck. Now, there is absolutely a talent dip on this defense than those we've seen previously, but they either aren't properly prepared or don't listen to what the coaches are saying which is the worst possible scenario

Saturday night's game vs Bama was the worst defensive performance by an LSU team I've ever seen

Did you miss the ole miss game?

While the performance against Alabama was abysmal, the ole miss game was far worse.

It's hard to believe considering BK said the DLine is improving and playing well

Watching the Defense and hoping for a stop is like hoping for Christmas snow. It happens once in a life time.

You obviously weren’t there for the Lou Tepper days, and he had more talent.

More interesting is how they do not mention Matt House or the defensive staff. They are just commenting on stats.

3rd and house is a real thing. But that shouldn't be the discussion. It should be, any down and house. I don't remember watching an LSU defense look like Swiss cheese before.

2019 defense gave up
530 yards and 38 points to Texas
541 yards and 41 points to Bama
600 yards and 37 points to Ole Miss at home.

2020 defense gave up
506 yards and 48 points to Auburn
558 yards and 48 points to Ole Miss
586 yards and 44 points to Mizzu
609 yards and 34 points to Florida
632 yards and 45 points to Mississippi St
650 yards and 55 points to Bama

2020 defense was worse than 2023, yall just have forgotten. LSU played 10 games and gave up at least 500 yards and 44+ points in half of them.

Still plenty of time for more records to be set vs this defense.
Going by what we've seen so far this season, it would not surprise me in the least if Pennywise the House Clown and his Defense allow Etienne 3.0 from Jennings to rush for 200+.

They let Milroe go off with NO ADJUSTMENTS, so why not Etienne?

How loud would the explosion be if Sun Belt Billy and Trevor Etienne come into PIMger Stadium and manage to pull off the upset? Seriously doubt if it happens, but with this dysfunctional non-adjusting defense, anything is possible.

That ultimate nightmare scenario for LSU fans is highly unlikely, but never say never!

T-Bob said that there was a stretch where Bama converted 7 straight 3rd down conversions followed by a quarters worth of time between the 3rd and 4th qtr that Bama's offense didn't even get to 3rd down.

Whoever heard of needing to have a spy on a dual threat quarterback on third down? I know two people.

I'd have to refresh my memory on the '19 games you stat-quoted. But in the case of the Bama game 21 of their points came from a punt return and two long TD passes - one when Stingley was looking to the sideline and the last score Bzma made.

IOW, just stating yards and points doesn't tell the whole story.

Did he mention that bama’s offense is ranked 71st in the country? That makes it 10X worse.

NCAA offense rankings

It's hard to fathom how historically bad that is.

Third and 15+, both at Bama and against the Hogs, and I just knew we'd need a few Our Father's and a Hail Mary or two to prevent those big hosses from running for the 1st down. Darn sure our defense probably wouldn't hold them back....

The 2020 defense didn’t play a grambling or army to pad the stats a little
