Bama would be our #1 and they would have us listed at #3.

Bama's list would be:

UT- no explanation needed

AU- no explanation needed

MSST- have played them consecutively more than any other team in the West.

Then:

Vandy- they were our 2nd permanent east rival. Played them more than LSU.

LSU- this game has only become big game due to Saban and both teams being good during the same period. Not a knock on LSU but historically not a big rival.

Ole Miss
UGA
UF

It's an excellent idea

I like it a lot. I get pissed repeatedly over not playing some SEC teams that I really like, esp UT and UGA. and some talk about further expansion. this conference has too many teams and to maintain an identitiy in the long run we need to play each other more often.

Bama goes AU and UT for sure. Probably state after that. LSU' s rival games should be Arkie, a&m and ole sis. Bama and lsu is only a rivalry one way (big games don't equal rivalry) and that's only because of Saban. Bama and LSU didn't play very often until 58 or 59. Auburn goes with Bama, georgia and gets to renew the florida game which is one of the older rivalries in the SEC.

For LSU you have to look at it through the eyes of other teams. Example.
A&M is going to play us, Arky, and mizzou every year.
Arky is going to play us, A&M, and mizzou every year.

That means we have A&M, Arky, and ?
Third team would most likely be Ole Miss or Bama.

I would guarantee in that format arky and aggie are two of our three.

Regardless of what you Bama fans consider a rivalry, LSU-Bama is definitely perceived as one nationally. We are the most important game on your schedule most years in this common era of college football. That will matter when it comes to selecting permanent opponents.

You get your two biggest rivals in AU and UT. No one gives a frick about your Miss St or Vandy games. I can promise you CBS and ESPN, who are paying billions for Sports TV rights, will have their input. They will want the big games preserved.

Agreed:

A&M = LSU, Arky, Mizzou
Arky = A&M, Mizzou
LSU = A&M, Ole Miss

But no guarantee on LSU/Arky pairing. Arky could just as easily get either Miss school and we could get Miss St (who we have played more than ANY SEC school).

I like this plan just because you get to play SEC east opponents more regularly. We went to Athens for an LSU/UGA baseball series last year because a couple of us had never been and we don't play football there until the mid 2020's I believe.

Basically what I'm seeing is we pretty much play the same schedule minus Florida.

Just do away with protected opponents and east/west all together and maintain your rivalry games and problem solved.

Why complicate things? Go to a nine game conference schedule. Play everybody in your division and rotate the out of division games. Simple and pure. Some how the conference will survive with out "protected" rivalries.

Florida going to the SEC championship game last year was a joke. They got to go just because the east is hot garbage right now.

The current system is severely flawed because the two best teams in the conference do not play for the championship because they're "protected" by their schedule.

Or we can enter 2016 with the rest of the country and stop the permanent rivals.

this proposed solution is BETTER than the 9 conf game solution. You get to play ALL SEC teams EVERY 2 years and visit EVERY SEC stadium each 4 years. A 9 conf game schedule does not achieve those results AND takes away from OOC options. Do you think we would ever see Oregon & WVU the same year if we had only 3 OOC games?

Honestly, this solution is fricking awesome. It is perfect. Way better than current situation. Way better than 9 conference games. Do away with divisions and the best 2 teams play for conference championship.

I'm actually pissed that such a perfect solution has been contrived and that we haven't switched to it immediately. How could anyone not want this?

While true, and a decent solution, this still does not allow you to cycle through ALL of the SEC teams EVERY 2 years. I like this new proposal better. Every 4-year player should have an opportunity to visit EVERY SEC stadium in their career. If you're good enough to leave after 3, so be it... the NFL $ (and BETTER stadiums) more than makes up for missing a few SEC teams.

I agree they should cycle through teams more frequently, all I'm saying is the BS permanent opponents which are only there for 2 rivalries makes this more difficult. If you free up that extra game.
