Literally every football player from that era will say the same thing about their current team

With that being said, LSU is currently soft even in today’s standard for CFB

Unless he played for Arnsparger there was no consistent toughness in that era either.

Toughness? Pleaseeeee. I was a freshman at LSU and I stand a solid 5’5. Matches up with Gabe in a flag football match and he was playing WR and I was playing corner. They never threw to him. He and I would just laugh as he’s standing flat foot waving for the ball and I’m jumping to barely touch his elbow. Dude was massive. One of the Kinchen’s was on that team as well…he was not nearly as cool as Gabe.

Curly Hallman was an idiot, but there were some exceptional players in the 1990s. By your answer, I know you never spent a day on the Ponderosa.
By your answer I can tell you never spent time at games from 1990-1994. I went to quite a few. They were horrible. Did they have a few players here and there? Of course, every SEC program has talent. For the most part the talent was lacking until Saban came in with elite recruiting.

Is this a joke? you attended games as a fan? Congratulations. So, you are now the expert on all players from the Archer/Hallman era?

LOL. This is funny. Zeus’ toughness as a player is based on you meeting him once on a flag football game? LOL

Perkins joins a long list of recent players who had great first seasons and then regressed. Partly due I think to reading press clippings and realizing in 2 yrs they would be millionaires. List includes: Arden key, Derek Stingley, K'lavon Chaisson, Kayshon Boutte, Arik Gilbert ( to a degree ), Kevin Toliver, Kristin Fulton, Greedy Williams. It seems we have a real problem culturally with these kids not staying focused for 3-4 yrs they are at LSU. Of course we had the same issue with Coach O. He won the big one and was satisfied. Saban was never satisfied and that is what separated him from other coaches.

I don’t think you hear a ton of casual fans talking about a team’s “culture”. That’s usually coaches and players.

I can say that you’re full of shite. Who wants to d “culture” from the 80’s and 90’s for that matter. We know you’re probably in your 50’s and think you know. Smoking dope and getting in trouble then was basically unheard of. Players got cars to go to school then and coaches didnt have to worry a frick about anything unless they were caught for murder. I know from first hand about several situations that they had to be bailed out. Then next week they are playing.
My point I made to you was the behaviors tolerated then versus what a coach that can allow now, may seem to be soft. This entire generation is “soft”. To compound it, true players have all the power with transfer portal and NIL so those frickers are coddled AT EVERY PROGRAM. Why do you think there is so much parity in college football. Now let’s add in the issue at LSU - Title IX. If you don’t think the kind of player LSU can recruit isn’t impacted, you are sorely mistaken.

Bottom line is we don't have the horses like we have in the past, and what we do have is soft, very soft....except for Weeks.

and he pointed squarely at Kelly and how he leads the program. His demeanor. How he comes off.

some LSU Defensive Linemen and Ends from 1993-1995 that could say the same about the next generation after them

Have you even listened to anything Nick Saban has said over the last 20 years?

By demanding (emphasis on demanding) the very best effort from every single player, every single minute, on every single drill, and every single play, of every single practice, and during every single game.

I’ve seen Saban go ballistic in the 4th quarter of games when Bama was up 58-0 with 3rd team players in the game when they messed up or didn’t give maximum effort.
