Have to get someone who is more old school in play calling. Cannot just call a go route every play and throw it up and hope our guy out jumps their guy. Need better mix of run & pass and way more slant patterns and across the middle routes. Make the secondary figure out who to cover & pass off.
All you have to do is fake a hand off, roll the QB out and release the TE to the same side. There will be one player covering the TE and he will have to decide whether to stay on the TE or move forward to tackle the QB. Either way it always works cause if he comes towards the QB you toss it to the TE and if he stays on the TE the QB runs it in.
So on point. How many offensive series were EXACTLY these plays. That screen play never works cause our WR's can't block. Only offensive player playing well is TreDez Green. Can you imagine if Jayden was his QB? As bad as i hate to say it, I miss the running plays of Miles. Our OL cannot block for running plays. Don't know what the fix is but it has to be coaching.
This is starting to look a lot like 1988. Loads of talent, coming off several 9-10 win seasons, to 5 team at beginning of season - everything seemed to be pointing upward. But in reality we had a coach that wasn't what everyone thought he was, recruiting was dropping down and coordinators weren't top level. We all remember what happened after that season.
The main issue I see with the offense is the zone read RPO. Every DC knows Nuss is not going to run so why do the RPO? All that happens is the RB runs up the middle into a packed D line. I never see any outside runs, jet sweeps, anything to keep the defense on their heels. I believe the pass game is very good although they do tend to try too many go patterns and jump balls down the sidelines. The game plan against Ark was the best of the year when they threw quick passes and marched down the field 5-8 yds at a time.
Perkins joins a long list of recent players who had great first seasons and then regressed. Partly due I think to reading press clippings and realizing in 2 yrs they would be millionaires. List includes: Arden key, Derek Stingley, K'lavon Chaisson, Kayshon Boutte, Arik Gilbert ( to a degree ), Kevin Toliver, Kristin Fulton, Greedy Williams. It seems we have a real problem culturally with these kids not staying focused for 3-4 yrs they are at LSU. Of course we had the same issue with Coach O. He won the big one and was satisfied. Saban was never satisfied and that is what separated him from other coaches.
Was at that game and was brutal. So was 95 Auburn game. My daughter was at 2015 Auburn game and she said it was supposedly 130 on the field. Most people don't remember we played Dec game in 85 against E Carolina and that had to be the coldest game. Was one of very few students at the game.
