It forces the hitter to swing at bad pitches, knowing he has to make contact. It leaves the runner at risk of being doubled up on a line out. What’s wrong with a straight steal?

Sometimes the hitter is told to swing no matter what just to try to disrupt the catchers concentration bc the runner is stealing.

Hal is an automatic out when he comes up.... zero, literally zero plate awareness. He is absolutely clueless in the batters box. I don’t care if he got lucky last time, he still got out. Like just about always. I believe that’s the reason CPM put on the double steal last time he batted. He knew Hughes was gonna get out or ground into a DP.

a couple things are good with a hit and run.
you move the infield before the bat makes contact. This creates holes in the infield. A righty is up and the 2nd baseman moves, hits it he other way hole left for a base hit and guy gets to third.
It's a good play when it works but it doesn't always work.
