For a coach that values offense, yea I think that’s the play

It is. At DH. Sad truth is that Beloso is about to be processed and Bianco fills your super-utility role

Looks like McManus threw out 18 of 39 steal attempts his last full JUCO year in 2019 so maybe he can stick behind the plate. Maybe Samford didn't have him catch much this year because he was clearly their best hitter.

Is Wyeth the worst you’ve ever seen?

2021 Stats

Their stats from this year show 3 CS on 16 attempts with 6 passed balls. Kaden Dreier, on the other hand who had some more playing time behind the plate, had 51 attempts and threw out 15

they were so desperate for some offense at catcher that they forced another .150 hitter into the lineup to try & make up for it.

That was different. We were desperate for offense last year period. Next year runs won't be so hard to come by so we can afford to have a sub optimal bat at the most important defensive position. In addition, Johnson's teams haven't shown to be all that great defensively and I would think adding Berry to our IF is a defensive down grade from what was already one of our worst defensive IFs under Paul. I really don't get how this concept is so difficult to grasp. It's very rare that you see catchers who can do both in college. Our offense will rake next year with or without Milazzo at Catcher, so let's keep up the defense put McManus at DH and so long Beloso.

I think Jobert will be the DH, or a very strong option as a right-handed hitter.

We don’t need to turn these threads into bashing a former coach. He’s gone. Look forward, not backward. Focus on where we are going, not where we have been.

Absolutely! But just like Tiger fb and hardwood bball, the obvious brightness, improvement and future of the respective teams will have folks expressing the longtime pains from the previous years. It’s been taking over a full season after coaching changes to get over the past heartaches.

What’s your objection to Milazzo? No doubt you have a history of shitty takes, but with a little coaching I don’t see how a great defensive catcher hitting .240+ is out of the question for him

He batted .155 is 40-50 games.

He also batted .186 in 2020 before the season was shut down.

So you assume he can miraculously raise that to .240?

I just don't know, but sub .200 in both seasons is pretty bad.

Milazzo had a 402 OPS in 2021

For comparison, Hal Hughes had a 477 OPS in 2019

Milazzo is going to be a terrific, late-inning defensive replacement

Let me ask 104.5 if they like this. I want to be excited, but they always know what's best.

Our recruiting under pm last couple of years was so lazy

No the fans who didn't pay attention to baseball recruiting or the games are the ones who were lazy. LSU had THREE FRESHMEN ALL-AMERICANS this season

Won over 1500 games?

And as you so proudly put his win total up you make the point of what Pawl really did. Regulated a program that was based on National Championships to a program that’s just proud of wins.

LSU for the most part has had great 2 way catchers the last 20 years lol

Lol I’m not worried about Beloso at all. But dugas & Berry are both DH candidates so if it isn’t obvious they are looking to upgrade C, I don’t know what to tell you.

Same. I’ll wait to get the insights of Ronnie Rantz.

Samford Catcher

At first glance I saw it as "Stanford". I read the OP and saw the numbers and was thinking "WOW".

Then upon further inspection it was indeed Samford. I'm not familiar with them or the quality of competition but it could just be a step above high school level.

How many catchers come out of high school with gaudy hitting averages that don't quite match those numbers in the SEC?

Heck yeah!!!!! Offense will be POTENT!

Now we just need pitchers. Saw Texas just lost one to the portal, don't know how good...
