He’s probably damn near a walk on with the gpa and ACT like that. Tops probably has him covered for his whole tuition.

I know you posted his numbers against the SEC this past season at Samford. Again, this is just eyeballing, but in 2019 at Delgado, he seemed to hit better against the better programs they played. He had good games against Crowder, NWFS, and a few others. I know one of the NWFS games he was facing 3 D1 pitchers. I don't really care what he did against LSUA's JV team. If he's hitting against the tops of the JUCO ranks while in JUCO, that's impressive.

When you add that he stepped up against the best teams on his schedule while at Samford, it becomes a pattern.

What’s dumb is your reading comprehension because the only argument I made was stopping balls in the dirt wasn’t some major talent for division 1 catchers.

Apparently “people who know ball” think that’s some rare talent. I probably should have played in college 20 years ago since I caught 5-A ball for a few years and never had a passed ball.

Point was I wasn’t very good but I could block a ball because it doesn’t take half talent to put yourself in front of the thing going 90 mph and keep it in front of you.

Blocking isn’t all about talent, sure, but you need a lot more coordination and skill than you’re letting on. You can work hard enough to get better and better but you still need an elite reaction time and ball skills to do it really well. Also, no passed balls isn’t difficult to achieve since any ball in the dirt would be considered a wild pitch. You’re patting yourself on the back for a stat that’s one of the most useless in the game.

If it gets by you it’s not a passed ball. And blocking FBs moving that fast does take skill that can’t be learned… also called talent.

No kidding. My whole argument is it’s not some major talent.

No, I got your point. You’re differentiating between a wild pitch and a passed ball. My whole point to begin this thread is that should not be some major talent for a Division 1 catcher. Being moderately competent behind the plate should be expected of a catcher at LSU.

Apparently we only had one competent catcher and that guy chose to hit .150. How bad is your recruiting if that’s what your choice is?

So I guess late bloomer? That's cool.

Love adding a bat like this. Our team BA might be .330

JUCO baseball is a different animal than football or basketball. It's more likely a guy went to JUCO for baseball for more opportunities to play and develop than because of grades. Or to keep their D1 recruitment open if they felt like the schools they want to go to hadn't seen what they can do yet.

Because you didn’t seem to know the difference.

A D1 catcher should have the natural ability to react quickly, yes. Most people call natural ability talent. And it’s not easy. And that part can’t be learned. You’re trying to say talent isn’t involved and it’s all about hard work or not being lazy. It’s much more complex than that to be good at that level. You have kids who will work harder than anyone yet can’t hit 0.300 at an NAIA school or throw harder than 85 or can’t hit a pitch moving 90 mph.

You call this a choice as if he’s not working as hard as he can or not listening to those trying to help him.
