Close to finishing deal but yes there is an issue.

quote:

The deal may not happen without a hitch, though. While Slater reported that a deal was close to done, language in Nielsen's contract with the Saints could make things difficult. Namely, there is a dispute on whether the language of Nielsen's contract allows him to move to the college ranks. As such, the Saints reportedly are not signing off on the move.

So if the Saints don't sign off, what do they think Nielsen's feelings will be about remaining with the Saints?

Either he ends up at LSU with some degree of contract buyout or he finishes out his Saints contract for another year or two and leaves for another job. The Saints would be stuck with a coach who doesn’t want to be there and a bad look for potential hires.

t’s pretty unbelievable Orgeron wouldn’t have found this out before leaking he was going to hire this coach

I am sure LSU asked him if there were any contractual items that would prevent his hire. It sounds like the Saints are clinging to something in the contract that NIelsen wasn't even aware. Hard to put this on O.

Maybe as terms of the buyout LSU will let Ensminger coach their TE as an analyst next year.

Payton just getting annoyed with O not being able to go out and find his own guys, and continuing to go to the Saints' well.

Yes! Finally what we needed ....

Something that will make a break between true LSU fans and trash saints fans that like LSU too when it’s convenient.

Pick your side.

If it’s one thing nfl coaches don’t like is asst breaking contracts
That will hurt him if he ever wants back in the nfl

LOL he'll probably make twice as much over a 3 year span at LSU just by fielding a top 25 defense than he'll make with the Saints as a DL coach.

I didn't go back much further than Nielsen at NC State and didn't realize he was at Ole Miss with O.

Buddy I grew up a fan of both teams, I’m not going to stop being a Saints fan just because you think LSU fans should pull for the Cowboys

The Saints just don’t want Nielsen pulling a Joe Brady. The Saints want protection from him going to LSU for a year and then going back to the NFL for another franchise.

Basically Saints want his rights if he comes back to the NFL.
