Know this guy is young and didn't play against the best competition in high school, but... can any explain why he is starting, batting 2nd in the lineup, and not doing too well defensively in center field??? Just would like some opinions...

Mainieri has a soft spot for small scrappy players

How many teams have a .115 hitter batting second in the lineup, unless he as expected to bunt and run EVERYTIME and hope for the best.

To start you need to weigh 150 lbs and not over 5 foot 6 to be in Pulmonary's lineup.

There’s no way in hell maurice hampton couldn’t have been better than this

The only reason he’s at LSU is due to political reasons. He’s not an SEC player

Because he swings for the fence too and Paul likes that.

He’s 5’8” 163... built for power.
I was that size in 7th grade

Small strike zone, all I can think of.
Well maybe Paul can talk to him eye to eye...

I think he’s doing well in CF. He’s obviously faster than any other option. Most casual fans judge outfielders by how they do on balls that hit their glove, but the real differentiator is how many balls hit their glove. Safford’s speed is a difference maker with Gio out.
