He's an infielder. I think he could become a good OF. Look at Dugas' progression as an OF. I just don't get why Safford becomes an answer in CF now that we're in conference play - this should have been worked through way earlier. Sure, you can't plan for Gio going down but stick with Drost and Sanford (both OFs). And, don't bat him 2nd. It's not going to hurt in the long run but our short run is suffering badly. Stevenson or Crews will be in CF next year, book it.

He shouldn’t be hitting 2nd in Southern’s lineup. Hitting in the two here is the same as Miles keeping DJ Welter on the field. The similarities between the two coaches are undeniable.

I heard alot of hype about Stevenson this weekend from guys that have seen him a good bit. I'm just not very familiar with him.

He may not have a cannon but he has a good enough arm to compete for the 3B spot before CPM went all idiot and started a PITCHER there for the first two games of the season.
Safford was a SS at UHigh and probably never played CF in his life. CPM has this mistaken belief that it doesn't matter where you have played all your life, he will insert you to play a new position and all will be well. THis assertion normally plays out every year at 1B but sometimes there are also outbreaks of this idiocy at 3B and OF.
Safford's speed is elite and gets him close or to many balls that others never touch. But he is taking some missteps initially after a batted ball but will get better as season progresses.
I still don't get Cranford at 2b with a weak bat. Would rather Arnold or Doughty there.

This is the part that’s hard to understand. He must be practicing way different than he’s playing.

And on top of that he runs off a 5 tool player two sport player that will end up being drafted higher than any outfielder on roster outside of crews

Safford’s speed is a difference maker with Gio out.

“difference maker”

How many games has LSU won with him in the lineup?

He isnt perfect, but considering our other options there now, he is the closest....just needs some more reps....preferably before conference play started....but here we are

Why does he get more reps over players who will actually play the position in the future? And who can hit better?

My concern for the Rant right now is that there is a lot for griping and complaining about certain kids. There seems to be a couple of players that Paul is dead set on forcing into the lineup, and he’s going to put them in a position that they aren’t ready for yet. The fans, in their disgust over Paul’s decision making, are griping about the kids who are only doing the best they can.

We’ve got to focus our energy on the source.

I mean yeah, his lack of recruiting and his early season decisions have put us where we are. I just cant have every post i make be about PM, gets tiresome to me

You have posters like geauxtigers33 who would rather blame the players than PM. It’s their fault for not succeeding. They’re at fault when they don’t come through or don’t make a play. Paul has no control when he keeps Beloso in and he Ks with the bases loaded. Or when he pitches Brady in a 0-0 game and he lets 5 runs score. That’s not Paul’s fault in any way.

I mean OF. We have plenty of OFs on the roster and most of them would be a better CF option over Safford.
