And I wished Spurrier had fallen into our lap after Saban left.

Without Saban, I likely wouldn't have attended LSU and my life would look entirely different today (not better or worse). I grew up out of state with LSU alums as parents. LSU football became an obsession in our house during my most formative years, which coincided with the Saban years. Sure, we had family in BR that we visited frequently, but it was Saturdays in the fall that really forged my connection with LSU from afar. In hindsight, I don't think that would've happened had they simply continued as a middling program.

Wrong! If my wife were to leave me I’m not gonna fricking think of her fondly and brag about how she once was mine just because she had nice tits. It’s alright that Saban went to the NFL. I would not have even minded if he coached elsewhere in college. Bottom line is Saban didn’t know how good he had it here and went to a divisional rival and ruined many seasons for us single handedly. I will forever be thankful for what he did for our program but I’m not gonna kiss his arse now that he’s retired. frick him.

I enjoyed Les until 1/9/2012. Even before that though, I would’ve always welcomed “little Nicky” back with open arms!

Spurrier was kinda washed up by the time he went to SCAR. He had changed his offensive philosophy because of what happened in the NFL. He would have achieved about what Les achieved IMO.

unfortunately Skip didn’t have the gumption to fire Miles and they would’ve taken some heat initially but it would’ve been our 16 years of dominance.

Easy to say this now.

At that time then, Miles had 2 great seasons at LSU and was poised for another, while Saban was coming off of 2 mediocre seasons in Miami where the stories where about him losing his mind on players during practice.

No AD would've taken that risk. It sucks how it played out, but I don't think LSU could've done anything different.

Dumbass post.

First, I’m still skeptical that Saban, either directly to Bertman or through channels, “asked to come back.”

Secondly, no way Les Miles was getting fired after his 2005 and 2006 seasons. Sure, hindsight is better than foresight but Saban had just followed up 2003 with a relatively meh 2004 season then the failure with the Dolphins. And who is to say he wouldn’t have left again in a couple years?

Should Bertman have had a crystal ball? Accepting for the sake of argument that Saban indeed “asked to come back,” keeping Miles was the right move at the time. Firing him after 2006 would have caused a national shite storm.

It’s the height of stupidity to criticize Skip Bertman with the benefit of hindsight.

How long have you been an LSU fan? Yeah, it would have been bad optics but you roll with who got you there! We ALL knew what Nick could be. He proved it at LSU! I for one would have pulled off the NBC Conan O’Brien switch back to Jay Leno. (Miles for Saban)

Well, the washed-up coach went 1-1 vs Saban and beat Clemson (Dabo) five straight seasons while at USCe.

That said, though, I never adjusted to Les Miles. I never could feel the same excitement during any Miles’ season, not even 2011.

Like Miles or not, the job he did in 2005 was fantastic. Keeping that team focused and performing at that level in the aftermath of Katrina was incredible. LSU played games in 11 straight weeks that season and hit a wall in the SECcg then went on to destroy Miami in the bowl game and set that program back at least 10 years.

And then followed it up with great 06 and 07 seasons

According to a book about Saban, he called the Michigan State AD when he got to LSU and said he made a huge mistake and could he please come back to MSU.

The AD told Saban it was too late they had already moved on and there was no going back.
