Which is why season tickets are a rip off. You get more value out of buying individual games (the good ones) than to buy seven games with two, maybe three of them being good ones.

Well strength of schedule would determine more or less the break down of these top teams, how they look as a whole recently should play a part also. How they play with injuries, and how they look when playing the tough teams. SEC shouldnt combine the east/west win/lose records in this day and age it just isn't correct in deciding the champion from that division. LSU is going to be a strong team next year regardless of who the HC is and I can't wait to see a full year of the new regime who ever that may be. Hope Aranda sticks around for a decade like K Smart did. He would be wise to do so IMO, win something significant with LSU then try new endeavors. I don't think he will take a HC job I believe the NFL will come after him as DC for the league. Hope he stays for a while though bc with him this team will make huge strides. GT

This is proof that he's almost ready to retire and was probably offered a job on the committee. This coming from the man who pleaded for rule changes when his defenses couldn't stop the spread offense. If he had another 5 years in him, there's NO WAY he's backing the words coming out of his mouth.

So what you're saying is Saban is a little nervous at LSU getting an actual head coach that could beat him 50% of the time, essentially knocking Alabama out of their title hunt every other year with a single game?

You play quality opponents every week

only if you play the "slot" and not a team

for example, if you finish #1 in your division and lose the champ game, you play the teams that won divisions in conference X this year. next year IF you finish 3rd in division and 5th over all, you play another different conference, and match the 3,4 and 5 teams.

The NFL dictates the schedule. right now, D-1 teams have to map out a schedule for 5 or 6 years in advance. LSU was going to play Oklahoma soon but Big XII/10 brought in TCU and Okies moved the game back to 2022 * I jest, but do not hold your breath).

ike Fla. now, loses 5-6-7 starters, they are stuck with who is left on the squad.Whereas an NFL team can either trade or pick up another player on waivers when injuries hit.

NFL roster sizes are also significantly smaller....53 man rosters in the pro's, where college teams at the FBS level can have up to 85 scholarship players and 105 total players on roster.

They'd basically be the SEC-W's version of Vanderbilt or Kentucky

yea he is right because college football is unlike any other major sport pros or collegiate where you are punished for losing a game in early September or to another "power house" type of team. also unlike any sport you have a top 4 for teams in early November with a possibility of 4 more games remaining so a standard is already set even though you may have teams that end up getting hot at the right time just to get left in the cold im just saying the playoffs don't need more teams added just a better system during the yr. put the best 4 teams in the playoffs not the ones with the least losses throughout the yr. I agree 100% even if you put 8 teams in the playoffs its going to be a 9th and 10th team screaming for a 12 team playoff. tweak the regular season, have a cupcake the first week so that a south Alabama or la-Monroe can get their money as a preseason like type of game and then the next 11 are balls to the wall with two out of conference games like lsu vs ohio st Michigan vs Alabama a Clemson vs Oklahoma a Louisville vs west virgina and the rest conference games and at the end you have a selection show like march madness and pick the top 4 and that's it. barring upsets or injuries we already know the top 4, the intrigue is gone

My idea would be 4 16 team conferences (64 teams total). Each of the 4 conferences would be divided into 2 8 team divisions. You play 7 in division, 2 from other division and a rotating 3 from other conferences plus one rent-a-win in the first game of the season as a tune up. In 4 years you will have played every team in the other division. In 16 years you will have played every one of the other 63 teams.

2 division champs play conference championship game, winner to the play-offs. No panels, no computers, just decided on the field.

Saban is way oversimplifying things here. Yeah it sounds good, if you are a power 5 school.

Non power 5 FBS would be caught in pergatory, which isn't good for the sport.

Saban is only $13 million from returning to LSU and ripping the hearts out of Bama fans. Alleva, do it now.

Agreed! Sacrificing the dedication of players at these "rent-a-win" schools pushes the ethics issue beyond reason. "It ain't fair, Rusty!"

He's not wrong, but that would accelerate the move towards a "true" Div 1 and other schools. You have over 100 top-tier (and, yes, I still call it Div 1) schools in name only; if the smaller schools who rely on six-figure OOC game checks to fund their athletics programs lost that source of revenue, well...

when the SEC schools strengthen all their games
the other schools WILL NOT FOLLOW.
they know the purpose of the playoff is to not have 2 SEC schools play

that would only hurt the SEC schools AND the small schools who can use the money.

Leaving to smaller schools high and dry is a bad idea.

It's not the responsibility of the LSU's, Bama's, Ohio State's of the world to fund these small school's athletic programs.

I like a few small schools on the schedule which allows opportunity for second and third stringers to actually see the field and get some valuable experience.
