Posters really like to use that one. I remember when some posters would continually bring up Saban losing to UAB as some sort of gotcha while he was racking up titles at Bama.

There’s no way you believe that.
Is that true? Who did Saban have?
rohan davey, toefield, domanick davis, mike clayton, josh reed, jarvis green, trev faulk, bradie james, ryan clark, travis daniels

We’re gonna criticize BK for getting blown out at home, but it happened multiple times to Saban too

Fans tend to overreact to single game results, whether it be a win or loss.

Well he didn’t have or inherit all those guys so maybe you’re misremembering who was leftover from 1999.

Saban had to change the whole culture and view of LSU.

BK took over 3 years removed from a NC.

The lack of perspective some people display is quite amazing. Usually it’s attributed to youth. As someone who lived through both coaching hires and prior, Saban easily took over a worse situation.

Are you just lying? Saban recruited 2 of those guys

Clayton and Daniels weren’t on his first team so maybe you’re lying.

What do you think Saban would do about Safeties that miss tackles? I know he would be getting their attention immediately face to face.

I was at that game in question. I was at all the home games during that period. UF blowout, Bama 2002 blowout, but singling out single games means little.

You said they were on the team and he also recruited Toefield so you’re wrong on all points.

9 and 3 seasons were what did Les in. When he was 10 and 2 regular season, his job was fine.

you are simplifying CLM implosion by stating 9 & 3 seasons did him in.

Aleva, in his diminutive wisdom, kept CLM on after beating aTm in 2015.
Les Miles had many issues leading up to his departure which included time management, QB recruits and his offensive play calling.

and Miles stubborn attitude.

eating grass fried his brain.

You are comparing them.

Let’s compare them further.

How old was Saban when he took over LSU? 49.
How old was Kelly? 60.

By the time Saban was 60, how many major college NCs did each of them have?
Saban: 2 (and he won a third the season he turned 60)
Kelly: 0

At Kelly’s current age (63), how many NCs did each of them have:
Saban: 4
Kelly: 0

Comparing to Saban is a recipe for disaster.

Not a Kelly fan, but this isn't true. Saban inherited about 60 scholarship players, many of which ended up in the NFL. Dinardo actually recruited pretty well. He just took too many chances on recruits who wouldn't qualify. Kelly inherited about 35 scholarship players, most of which have not made the NFL. Kelly inherited a dumpster fire after Orgeron started chasing hooch instead of recruiting.

There were a few key things that led to his firing. He made Alleva look like an arse a couple times with the contract games he played then refusing to make changes at the end after promising he would. The constant back and forth between the HC and AD was getting ridiculous and fans were unhappy as well so it was just time.

I'd rather be 10 and 2 in regular season and lose a top match up BCS bowl then be 9 and 3 regular season and go beat Wisconsin in the nothing bowl.
Are you seriously saying the difference between 10-3 & 9-4 is the determining factor in whether to keep Brian Kelly or not?

As an exercise, we travel back to 2021 and we're looking to hire either Brian Kelly as he was in 2021, or, a young Nick Saban as he was in 99.

Who are you choosing?

How do we think Saban would have done if he had been coaching Notre Dame during the same time span that BK was?
