It’s also a bitch move to enter portal on a day that we play an elimination game.

Meh. That’s just how the portal works. It does suck, but guys who aren’t playing for playoff teams in football enter within days of it opening while their teams are practicing to try and win a title. Same situation here.

Which guys played this year at positions that Costello can play that sucked most of the year?

Jones

Spare me the bullshite stats against Northwestern St and Delgado Community College. Jones sucked this year at the plate and there’s no argument against it.

How will they ever replace his 8 at bats this year????

Not making the postseason roster probably pushed him to transfer I understand it

A couple of things.

Teams are having meetings right now on this. If he’s leaving, it’s because he’s been told he should leave or he’s got a big offer somewhere.

Rosters are getting smaller next year.

He probably knows there is a portal 1B coming.

yeah .262 7 HR isn’t “let’s play a true freshmen” bad

and this isn’t Jay picking his guy

he’s has 61 career home runs.

you don’t sit him for a freshmen with 0 career hits.

He actually got at bats late in 13 games in Feb/March and jsut didn’t hit.

You're confusing things. I'm not saying Bear has been great.

I'm saying you're an unreasonable idiot for suggesting that he should have been replaced with a true freshman with nearly zero times at the plate in the non-conference.

I’m not saying Costello should’ve replaced him but Jay could’ve thrown him a bone like he did with Braswell, Stanfield, Brown/Frey/Pearson

Of the top of my head, I can’t remember Jones not starting 1 non conference game.

Debatable. If Jat promised a real opportunity to start, I have a hard time believing he decided to elsewhere

and this blows my mind why you would not give this kid meaningful ABs if you want him in your program.

Jay sure rides “his guys” no matter what. Hate to see him leave. Seems hard to break into lineup after Jay picks his dude, even when they suck most of the year.

Or maybe he just wasn’t good enough?

We know, because of how many guys are about to leave, and based on every thing coaches say about him, that he is logically next in line.

Sure, but for example you can take Brown, Larson, Frey, Beck, Yamin, Pearson... All of those guys are capable of playing 1st, is he ahead of all of them? Y'all might know the answer, I don't.

But if LSU brings in some monsters out of the portal that block him, he could always leave then.

Of course, but surely you understand the benefit of getting to your new team before fall ball right?

How does he know his next destination isn't going to bring in other transfers who put him right back on the bench?

I'm sure he'll take that into account when he is choosing his next school.

There's a lot more certainty here, than going into a completely new situation.

I'm not sure you can say that. You think there's more certainty that he would get PT here compared to if he transferred to LA Tech or Tulane?

The main goal is to win. Johnson has recruited his arse off, and what you will start to see is these guys going other places and play well, which wasn’t as common as before.

Jay is going to recruit guys that can come in and start right away in the portal and it takes a confident kid to sit there and want to come in and compete, when he can go somewhere & be guaranteed to play.

Developing guys for 2-3 years is probably gone. It seems now you either quickly rise to the top or you’ll be replaced by a more seasoned portal guy.

Costello could end up being very good somewhere else and then we’ll get to see weekly threads about how Jay ran him off…but the model has changed.
