As a Nats and LSU fan I just want either Crews or Skenes

Skenes and Crews have the exact same bargaining power. The each have a year of eligibility left in college. They were both freshmen in 2021
Yeah you right, my bad.
Then he's still in the same boat as Crews. The teams have most of the leverage

I don't understand how this system came to be. Who advocated for this? Seems like it would be much simpler for both sides if the slot values for the first 10 rounds were just set in stone and that's what you get.
I would assume it was negotiated in the CBA but no it would not be better. I don’t mean to sound like broken record but it’s not the NFL draft and while Crews, Skenes and even Langford may be can’t miss prospects that doesn't happen ever year. As 1 example the Astros paid Carlos Correra a HS SS from Puerto Rico well below a lot value and were able sign Lance McCullers with a supplemental pick.

I don't know if I'd go that far. If teams don't sign their first round pick, they get that pick back the following year a pick down (If they don't sign a #4 pick, they get the #5 pick the following year). However, if they don't sign their first round pick, their overall bonus pool is deducted by that player's slot value. Kumar Rocker is the only 1st round pick who hasn't signed since 2018.
From MLB.com
quote:
If a player selected in the first 10 rounds doesn't sign, his pick's value is subtracted from his club's pool. If a team exceeds its allotment, it faces a penalty.
A team that outspends its pool by 0-5 percent pays a 75 percent tax on the overage. At higher thresholds, clubs lose future picks: a first-rounder and a 75 percent tax for surpassing their pool by more than 5 and up to 10 percent; a first- and a second-rounder and a 100 percent tax for more than 10 and up to 15 percent; and two first-rounders and a 100 percent tax for more than 15 percent.
With the slots for top 5 picks being so high, not signing one can cause massive problem for a franchise

Have enough respect to spell the man’s name correctly
Posted on 6/28/23 at 11:06 am to HangmanPage1
C’mon dude, edit the fricking title and spell his name right. Shouldn’t be hard to correctly spell the last name of arguably the greatest baseball player in LSU’s history.

Rumor before that draft was Joe Burrow didn’t want to play for the Bengals either. How did that work out?
MLB and NFL are totally different animals when it comes to this sort of thing.

I'm aware, but no one knows what's going on, which was kind of the point of addressing these "rumors." A lot of pre-draft rumors circulate in every sport. Most of them end up being bullshite.

Started by Langford's agent

Might be a dumb question, but if Crews were to fall to 1/2 in this case, wouldn't he get just about the same as taking the cut from the pirates?
Hell, he could get more. The draft has become all about back channels and signability. My son went to high school with Nick Castellanos. Before the draft, there was all kind of noise about what it would take to sign him and that he was intent on going to the University of Miami. He was drafted by the Tigers with the 44th pick (Supplemental 1st Round) and signed for $3.45 million. The only players who signed for more were the top 3 picks - including Bruce Harper and Manny Machado. The Tigers assistant GM was Al Avila whose son Alex went to the same HS as my son and Castellanos. Nick'sa agent was none other than Scott Boras. The whole thing was a ruse.
A few years ago an old roommate texted me to tell me that his son had been drafted by the Nats. I played pro ball with Nats GM Mike Rizzo and offered to call Rizzo on his behalf. He told me there was no need because they agreed on a signing bonus before they selected him in the draft.

Me and my brother talked to a scout at the 1st Tenner game. He said there's a good chance Pitt will take Max Clark with the pick. Also told us there's a CF out of the Dominican Republic who nobody knows about yet, who is supposed to be incredible. The Pirates could get both of those guys for the price of Crews. He also said he doesn't think Langford is a MLB CFer.

If a scout told you the Pirates are going to take a specific guy in the draft based on what they're spending on players in the Dominican Republic, either he's a fricking moron or he knows he was talking to morons.

He should just come back. Open up those wallets and GET IT DONE

Yes. Kumar Rocker did that a couple years ago when the Mets tried to frick him on his signing bonus
The Mets found legitimate medical issues, rocker didn’t budge got a lower signing bonus the next year and what do you know he’s having tommy John

Boras better not f this up for Crews like he does all his other clients
This is nothing more than Boras taking control of the draft

You're saying the Scott Boras has a pattern of screwing things up for his clients?
Interesting take.
