He did retire. I wish he had done it without continuing to draw a paycheck

Woodward is the biggest issue with LSU right now and should have been fired alongside Kelly.

Were you expecting Woodward to fire himself in the same breath he fired Kelly? Who exactly was supposed to fire Woodward? The interim President? That’s not a practical expectation.

Who is making that decision? Not an interim president? The governor himself?

I would think between the interim, the BoS, and the gov, this is not some insurmountable obstacle. I mean, what happens if SW just chooses to leave? Does everything go into a holding pattern?

It would be egregiously irresponsible to let SW hire another HC.

That part of Delly’s piece is obviously not accurate even though I’m sure someone did tell him that. There will be a new President very soon, and there’s no way Woodward is going to be given that responsibility on his own.

Absolutely and being in the SEC is that much harder for coaches. They have got to restructure these players contracts to where they only get money when they accomplish certain goals. You can’t throw all this money at these kids before they ever have any responsibility. It breeds laziness. You would think they would play hard to try and make a living at the next level but I bet some lose focus on that when they already have money. Transfer rules absolutely have to change.

He also says it appears Woodward will make the next hire…yikes

I got a run down from a guy with big time connections around noon. He spilled all the beans of what was going down. The one thing he said LOUDLY was the boosters and BOS want Woodward as far away from the next hire as possible without firing him.
As the day unfolded he got EVERYTHING spot in correct. He actually even named the next president we’ll see how that turns out. But from the way it all unfolded I believe Woodward will not be within mikes of the hiring of the next football coach

That makes no sense whatsoever. No AD in his right mind would allow a head coach to be hired in his flagship program without his approval. If he was told that, he'd resign on the spot.

I may catch flack for this, but it’s becoming a problem everywhere.

Indiana, Oregon, Ohio State, Ole Miss. It’s not happening everywhere. Those coaches understand this era.

Hard to blame them though, with how much money’s tied up in those contracts. The expectations are unreal.

That won’t happen. They got rid of a coach for the exact same reason.

They won’t make that move.

Players didn’t necessarily like Saban for his beautiful personality.

I think they did. Saban was very well liked by the majority of his players throughout his career.

I have a friend who is a big Michigan State booster and a retired CEO of an international aluminum company. Since he was so well connected he was invited to the Michigan State insider stuff. One was a hang out with Coach Nick Saban after their huge victory over Michigan. The gathering was in Saban’s man cave in his basement.

Saban chain-smoked cigarettes (the only time he smoked, in a deal with his wife) and decompressed. He was pleasant and fun to be around per my friend. I don’t know anyone who knew him well, but in his time in BR he had a circle of friends who seemed to like him.

With all of that said, Saban is too old to coach football, and I don’t think there is enough money in the world to induce him to do it.

Wasn’t there a booster that was concerned that we were paying too much for a part time coach? If so the report of Kelly being at the beach instead of recruiting starting to make sense.

Kelly and James Franklin are the same coach, and they just fired James Franklin. Why would they hire him again?

Penn State's coaching search starts and ends with Matt Rhule. As others have mentioned, BK is an older version of what they just fired in James Franklin so not sure they'd want him.

Yep. The fact that he fired Kelly bc he wanted to fire our worst position coach is really astonishing.
