He’d be SEC POTY right now with those stats

Include the intangibles of leadership, mentoring a young Chris Jackson, selflessness to play out of position for the team. You cannot always coach greatness nor quantify it in the stat line. Ricky Blanton was the complete package.

Absolutely not. He had a good career at LSU, but certainly not legendary status.

Legend for any late 80s Tigers hoops fan.

And Georgetown
AND big Lay in late against Kentucky to send us to a Final Four. 6-6 Freshman Center playing against NBA players all through that tourney.
Absolutely legendary for just that run, not to mention his next three years.

Legend and he should have a great position in the LSU system.

I wish the guys these days played with the heart he had.

This. And to say he was a "good player", either you never saw the games and are purely looking at his statistics or you have let time affect your memory. His performances were legendary whether or not he was!

Uhhhhh, we have NO PRAYER of making that final 4 run in 86 without his workmanlike play (at only 6-6 height) against THREE future first round picks in the post. Then he gets injured, redshirts, drops 40 or so pounds and comes back as an all-SEC backcourt player for a couple more years. He is EASILY an LSU legend on the court.

Better than Skylar Mays and went to the Final Four

There is no debate. Blanton is part of LSU lore.

Of course he's a legend
