Perfect.

Good Hurd is going to show up at some point. Then, LSU is going to get a Caleb Gilbert performance out of somebody and win the LSU Invitational like The Almighty intended.

Only thing i can think, now that im thinking about it more, is maybe Jay is thinking one game ahead, and arkansas could be the opponent on thursday, which may mean facing hagen smith, so this may be our last best shot at a win

We're in the double elimination phase. Why would this be our last best shot at a win?

It's possible they've been preparing to start him on short rest too like they were with Jump.

That makes sense. Maybe another piece is that both Jump and Holman will now be on extra rest in Games 1 and 2 in the regional. May be more likely to go a little deeper. If we can win 1 of those games like yesterday with just 2 pitchers and another using maybe 3, it should leave us with a really strong pen for Game 3.

Because our best chance to win a regional is obviously to go 3-0. I'm not sure we can lose a game and have to win the 5th game to go 4-1. It'd be great get 14 innings out of Jump and Holman, but we probably have to get 13. And maybe a couple days extra rest could help them do that.

I don't expect to see Holman to go 105 pitches and 7 innings today. He threw more pitches than Jump last week and today is not the must-win that yesterday was. I don't think they push him as hard today as they did Jump. Because they don't have to.

Not sure we watched the same game. Jay wasn’t pushing jump to go that far. Jump looked very adamant about not getting pulled and wanting to keep going back out there

I get what you're saying. I don't agree, though. This tournament means very little in and of itself--it's to prepare for the regional (or try to get in or help your seeding). This is a weird year with so many 13-17 teams, and you could manipulate the data to support any of the teams getting in over the others. And we don't know what the committee is going to decide to care about this year.

Yesterday should have cemented our place. But I think South Carolina and Vandy winning actually hurt us. With the way they've been playing to end the season, I think a 1 and done in Hoover would have kept both out, but I think Bama and Florida are more likely to get in after going 0-1 than USCe and Vandy would have been. And you never know how many bids are going be stolen by non-conference champions, there is a world, a chain of events, where we need to win another game to really be safe. Probably not, but possibly.

And we have a better chance with Holman vs. Kentucky and whoever they throw today than Arkansas with Smith. I don't think that means we're just gonna concede, bend over, and let Hunter Smith shove it up our arse should we face him, though. But already in, we could start Hurd, for example, and see if he can find some post-season magic (and confidence). We could use multiple arms the rest of the week if we win today and not have to really extend any of them. Unless Jay and Nate want to see how they respond. Basically, win today, and those 2 can play the rest of tournament with the main goal of setting up the pitching staff for the the regional. If the bats stay hot and we win some more games along the way, that's just lagniappe.

i get all of that......but no leader can honestly stand in front of his men and preach "this tournament doesn't mean anything". to us, sitting back watching, sure. tell the guys diving into 2nd on a ball in the gap. tell milazzo blocking pitches in the dirt, tell every pitcher who has struggled this year, and we're hoping they find their groove, tell them, this tournament doesn't mean much. i can promise you, each of those players, and jay, are playing the next game to win it.....and the one after that as well. i get it, there can be some tactical maneuvering etc....but i doubt jay is thinking about arky's pitchers and conceding a game to him.
