well, he's a senior this year.

In fairness, Max Johnson already earned his degree. He's a grad student at UNC

Has been to Monroe 3 times since he got the job. He got a RB from Miami out of the portal and this years safety JuJu Burns.

- The Rant

Hand up, I thought Max Johnson was going to be good.

I have never seen a player's stats be so deceiving. His numbers in 2021 were actually pretty good, but watching him play on the field told you differently for the most part.

I hope John Emery Jr rips off a 2,000 yard season. I know that he screwed up early in his career w/ school, but dude stuck it out for years. Just horribly bad luck w/ injuries after he got his shite in order.

I was so happy for him when he came into the USC game last year and gave us a big spark in the run game. He was playing with some fire and running his arse off. It was terrible to see him do that and get re-injured so quickly.

I also hope he has a great year. Best of luck to him.

He had games like Ole Miss in 2020 but after the half vs Auburn in 2021 it looked like teams had figured him out.

Gio Lopez is projected to start. He was the South Alabama QB we played last year.

Random - About a month ago, Cox was at my house working on our internet (outside line and new modem) and saw my 2019 championship poster in my office. He asked if I went to the Oklahoma game. I told him I did, and he asked if I knew who Emery was. I said of course.

Long story short, the tech is Emery's brother and he facetimed him. Pretty cool experience, and very cool guy.

Crazier that Emery still has eligibility.
He literally was on the 2019 title team.
I manipulated the system and kept my eligibility for 8 FRICKING YEARS in Tiger Band! I was on the TB Student Staff and LOVED what I was doing with Tiger Band Drumline and Basketball Band. You only get to do it once so why rush to graduate? I made the most out of my "LSU Student Experience" and stretched it out as long as I could before I finally accumulated enough hours to graduate!

Max Johnson quasi got the Arch Manning treatment. He had a career 52% completion rate in High School. Everyone on TD was saying "He has the mechanics of a good QB. That's more important than stats." Same thing everyone said on why Caleb Williams should get drafted over Jayden. Same thing everyone said about Anthony Richardson to the Colts or moreso for AR15 that he has the size, speed, and athleticism, but just need to work on the mechanics. Point is that stats do matter. Stats aren't just numbers, they are the numerical expression of how your performance was. They are your performance. Yeah there are instances where a QB gets negative yards kneeling it out to end a winning game or throwing it away instead of taking a 10 yard loss sack because there are no open WRs or throwing hail mary's that are unlikely to end a game... that all happens, but for the most part the stat book is your performance.

All that to say that Max Johnson got the 4 star rating because of his dad, Brad. Same thing for Arch. Arch averaged 8.5 ypa at Newman in 2A. Jayden averaged 11.7 ypa at LSU 2023. How is one to expect him to average 8 ypa in the SEC when he was doing that in 2A High School.

When I looked at his high school stats without knowing his name, you'd think a 3 star or even lower. For comparison to another 2A QB the same age, Jujuan Johnson average 11 ypa that same year, and had 2x the amount of passing yards ar Arch in 2022.

One of my few brushes with greatness was meeting Brad Johnson as he was coming out of Bin Q. Shook his bear paw of a hand. Dude is a giant.

I watched Max tear us up in Starkville back in 2021. Thought he'd end up doing more than he did. I don't blame him for staying in the game as long as he can. It doesn't look like there will be much in the way of QB after college for him.

Someone needs to put Max Johnson on display in a museum next to a dinosaur.
