Seems like a lot a you guys say not to panic and chill out about early losses and mid-week games every year. But also that LSU losses these games in typical fashion (largely with CPM making questionable decisions) every year. And then the season ends in disappointment at least the last few years. So...should we worry or not?

Of the only three teams to hold that distinction, we were top 3. Are you comparing LSU to the rest of college baseball or to LSU baseball of the 90’s?

I'm asking what was our record at the tournament once we got there?

I know what you’re asking. People will say Omaha is the goal and then if we don’t win it all once we get there, the program sucks and the coach should be fired. I don’t know what our record is, the point is we are one of only three teams to be there and we made it to the CWS final in 2017 so we must have won a few. It doesn’t really go along with the super decline we’ve supposedly experienced.

Hey, I'm not saying we have to win it every year but we should at least be playing in the championship game from time to time. We don't seem to do that anymore.

We are one of the last 6 teams in the country to play in the final so what’s your complaint? Do you also expect our opponents to just bow down and hand it to us? Making it to the final is not as easy as some of you make it out to be.

You're right. I guess We should be happy with getting there twice in the last 20 years. By non Skip Bertman teams.

What some of you don’t realize is that Skip would not currently be doing what LSU did back then.

Maybe not. But I can promise you Skip would have won more than 1 Natty from 2009-2021 if he were 20 years younger and the current coach.

And Helmers wouldn’t have started game 2, Our real closer would have closed it out, and he’d be 3-0 rt now

Oh Skip never lost to inferior opponents? I love all of the knowledge that you have from hindsight. He said they made the decision not to throw Fontenot again two days in a row this early in the season. Thompson and Safford were making too many mistakes defensively and so he tried Helmers at 3rd. He started because he had been more consistent defensively in practice, not because he is a better player than either one of them. The fact is, you don’t know what Skip would have done.

Really? I remember when Ryan Theriot made so many errors at shortstop in a weekend series at Georgia in Athens that Skip started having chest pains on the flight back to Baton Rouge on Sunday.

When the team doctor went to where Skip was sitting and asked him what the problem was Skip grabbed his chest and said, “It’s Theriot. I think he’s killing me!”

I remember. It's opening weekend FFS. I bet Florida fans aren't calling for thier coach to be fired and giving up.

Anyone panicking now and going full catastrophe syndrome simply doesn't know baseball.

And here goes another "super fan" virtue signaling about early season perspective, as if we don't already understand, and yet showing no awareness in their own post.

Florida lost two games to Miami. We played nobody.

Again, the poor play by some of the guys over the weekend was not a huge shock. We're used to ugly starts by now. It was the careless management of situational baseball by Mainieri that was maddening. And frankly, that's not going to go away. He's going to keep putting in his worst relievers in high leverage situations because he "had a feeling that morning", or putting a 3B in center field, or a pitcher at 3B, or bunt in the first inning with 3 runs in, two on, and nobody out, giving a free out to a pitcher that is getting hammered or can't throw it over the plate. He's going to burn his closer with big leads because he "needed some work".

That's just what he does. I'm sure there are attributes he brings on the practice field that are beneficial and help him to be a successful coach. I'm not going to denigrate him there. But his management has really fallen off.

Honestly I never would think any game is meaningless. Why play.

Look, im not going to overreact either, but its pretty disingenuous to insinute lsu’s loss is close to equal to florida’s 2 losses when you look at who florida played

Disingenuous? No, just baseball. In baseball you lose to teams that are worse than you are... and then you move on because it's a long season.
