Bertman and it’s not close.

Maybe this is cheating because it's technically 2 people but I gotta go with Malveto

I wouldn’t sell Matt House all that short.

Not Saban, he was beat by UAB

Pat Henry
Henry is obviously the best LSU coach, and probably one of the best in NCAA history. But this thread is about gameday coaches. There isn’t much game day coaching going on in track and field unless you’re coaching the jumps (which he did not). His skill was having everyone fully prepared then letting them do their thing when it was time to compete

I don’t know. But I do know John Furgerson was the best play by play announcer

Pat Henry by a large margin

Pat Henry,
That's a tough sell. In T&F, the work to win the meet is done throughout the season. There aren't really in-game adjustments to be made like in sports where other players can affect what you are doing. Sports like gymnastics, swimming and diving, and T&F are different because it's you vs. Judges or a clock. Just just have to be prepared for that event.

The question is who is not who was. The selection has to be from current coaches.
Answer is Mulkey.
Answer is Mulkey.

It’s not Saban. He is a good but not elite game day coach. He is elite in getting to game day.
I keep hearing that BS but I personally watched Nick take his team twice by the collar and rise like a Phoenix out of the ashes and snatch Victory from the jaws of Defeat with perfect textbook execution of 2:00 drill offense and leave our asses on the field in a fetal position sucking our thumbs.
Those that forget history are doomed to repeat it…

Of course....
Matt Canada, the Lord of the Jet Sweep!
(No, seriously, it's got to be Skip Bertman. )

IMO, I'm going to have to go with Bertman
If the Rant would’ve been around they’d have been calling for his head right up to the moment Morris took his first swing.

I think this is an issue of scale. It's like saying Barry Sanders' weakest aspect was his top end speed. He was "only" like top 1% in that, as opposed to the like top .0000001% he was in everything else.
Saban is really, really good as a gameday coach. But there are a lot of really, really good gameday coaches out there. What there aren't, are people who can gameday coach like he does AFTER having gameplanned, program built, and team prepped the way he does. He's strong at pretty much everything coaching-wise, but he's probably only among the absolute best in the non-gameday aspects. At least imo. Remember, he got beat by Les Miles three times, and he went 0-2 head to head against Miles after he turned Bama into a National Championship Program. And both that 2010 game and 2011 game were significant examples of being outcoached on the field.
