We can't live our lives waiting out that motherfricker's retirement. We've got to get a big time O.C. that knows how to compete against that prick. These circus clowns ain't even close.

Oh trust me, I agree wholeheartedly with that assessment. But let’s not act like we would be going through this drought if Saban wasn’t there.

That means having more national championships than Bear Bryant. Bryant had 6 (61, 64, 65, 73, 78, 79). Saban has his five at Alabama (09, 11, 12, 15, 17) and one at LSU. However, I think he clearly wants more than Bryant at Alabama, so he will not retire until he gets at least two more national championships there. That is his drive.

I think he is actually after Wooden's career number of 10. He wants 11.

He is over 100 wins behind Bryant and is eight conference championships behind Bryant as well. I do not see him staying around long enough to catch up to those numbers. Bryant coached for 25 season at Alabama, this will be Saban's 12th season at Alabama.

This is true, but consider that with an equal number of games coached at Alabama, Saban is something like 20 wins ahead of where Bryant was. He's doing it better than Bryant did, which is something I never thought I would see.

He's going to be there for at least 5 more years, barring any true medical emergency (not the Urban Meyer kind).

To be perfectly honest, I always thought he'd make another NFL try. He's shown he can clearly excel in college, but the fact that Pete Carrol, Barry Switzer and Jimmy Johnson have won Lombardi's has to eat at him.

I don't care how many victories you can rattle off in college. To be elite you truly have to get both.

Here's the scary part: If Saban had not returned to Bama, Les Miles would have likely been considered the third best coach in SEC history.

Sigh.

With Tua there that’s two very easy championships. Tua’s brother is 3 more.
I’d say 5 years and the little fellow is gone.

Recruits lining up to go there.
Including OL's from the far reaches of the USA that are both physically and mentally good enough to help produce Offense that wins SEC Championship after SEC Championship.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, LSU continues to load up on OL's from Louisiana public high schools (SOS) and naively expects a different result. (SEC West/SEC Championship)

To the guy who said "We should Harvy Updyke Saban.":

You should delete your post pal. Not cool/funny at all.

Deep down, his first true love is LSU...

Don’t know if you’re being sarcastic or not, but I’ve often heard this or the complete opposite.

I’ve heard that he’s said leaving LSU was the biggest mistake he’s ever made in his career. But I’ve also heard that he hated the people here, thought we are fricking idiots and all that.

He's said he'll see how he feels at 75 and go from there. So if you take him at his word minimum 8 more years.

You can wish him away all you want but it's not going to help. Might as well at least try to meet the challenge he presents.

He would not have been at LSU much longer. The SEC and NCAA would have come calling if LSU won multiple Nattys.

People are healthier and live longer nowadays. Like someone else posted, Saban's a young 67. He probably COULD go another 10 years, give or take a year.

I'm just going to point out-
the world won't change immensely the day he retires. People here get giddy at the thought of his leaving, like we will be able to take over.
Consider that he built LSU up before he was at Bama... Les Miles (a perfectly competent coach, but not a 1 in a million) was able to maintain LSU at the top. Won another title, may have had more if not fighting Urban Meyer at Florida. And keep in mind Miles survived Meyer, went 3-3 against him.
It took Saban returning to the SEC to Alabama, to finally push LSU off the throne of the West.

Saban has been at Bama twice as long as he was at LSU. When he leaves there, things will be established. And when he leaves, he's not coming back at another school.

Assuming Alabama finds someone as solid as Miles, they're going to be in good shape for a long time.

Doubt it, you forget Emmert is the one who hired him at LSU.

That in no way shape or form is a guarantee though.

He can still get his recognition in college but for as much as he'll be known as the greatest college football coach he'll also be known as as the greatest who couldn't make it in the NFL. Hes a 1st runner up.

Call me when he gets that bronze bust in Canton, OH.
this is about college football, not pro. I don't care one bit whether a coach made it in the NFL or not - it's a completely different game.

Whether Saban gets a bust in Canton is utterly irrelevant. Same as if our players flame out in the NFL. It doesn't matter. It's what they did here that counts for us.

I think he’ll be there 7-10 more years and likely winning 5 to 7 titles over that span.

I dunno. I remember him making a 350 lb defensive tackle from USC named Manuel Wright cry on national TV.

He would've been fine in the NFL. Don't know about Super Bowl winner because that takes an organization.

If it weren't for his age (67), I would still have hope of his returning to the NFL, like I used to. But I think that time has passed.

He'd almost certainly be considered the greatest coach in LSU history, since he'd likely have two national championships.
