With Vincent opting out the year to year changes are really starting to pile up on the defensive side...

Chaisson
Delpit
Queen
Phillips
Fulton
Brooks
Farrell
Vincent
Divinity

That's a hell of a lot of defensive talent to lose in one go. There's no doubt there's depth to replace them but there's likely to be growing pains, especially with jumping right into an SEC schedule. I hope Myles is ready to score some points.

Relax. Defense will be salty.

IMO the d-line under the new Pelini system needs to step up and impact some plays to take some pressure of an inexperienced secondary (other than Sting)

That was already an area of emphasis I was looking forward to under Bo, its seemingly been a while since we had a disruptive d-line but it looks like it'll need to be an emphasized addition this year.

The depth is there we just lack experience. Hopefully with Bo the aggressiveness makes up for the inexperience. The other teams won’t be able to keep up if they can’t throw for touchdowns, attacking the QB should be our number 1 priority given the current defensive personnel.

I realistically expect a hard hitting sure tackling D with some crazy stunts and inside blitzing.

I have not been worried about a decrease in offensive and defensive production. However, seeing that list of very talented names made me get an uneasy feeling....

DT- improved with Shelvin, Ika, Logan, Roy, Guillory
DE- we don't have a chiasson but this group should be better overall as the season progresses
LB- maybe a slight drop off but Clark, Cox, and Baskerville will be fine
CB- Stingley is as good as it gets so if the other side can hold it down while getting tested often, we'll be fine there.
S- having Stevens back is huge and the guys along side of him will be very good

Overall, the defense should be stout. They could be really potent if we can find some pass rushers.

We’ll have the same problems we had early last year with no pass rush. It’ll likely be worse because our interior guys are not upfield players but converted space eaters. Pelini and O will need more time to recruit personnel for the 4-3 so we should be patient. A lot of fans have this idea that Pelini is some kindve Gregg Williams type blitz crazy DC but he’s actually a shell 3 guy so don’t fall into the trap of criticizing him based off of made up rant assumptions. We can still be a good defense but think 2010 not 2011 in terms of pressure.

Inexperienced secondary? Stingley, Flott and Stevens all played significant time last year. Not to mention Hampton got some time with the 1st team last in place of Delpit and Todd Harris is back who has almost a full season under his belt as a starter.

I don't expect their ceiling to be as high as last year's team (started out bad, but by the end of the year was an equal part of the reason LSU tore through the final 4 games). But I think they will still be good enough to allow LSU to be in most games. Just too much talent to not be. Plus, with limited practice and "warm up" games, I expect the defenses to be ahead of the offenses for first few

I have all the faith in the world for Stingley Flott and Ricks to be a formidable secondary. Will Ricks have freshman moments? Of course but he is skilled and bog enough to be a nuance across from Derek

Shelvin is gonna go off. I think the defense picks up the slack for the offensive drop off. More of a balanced team that doesn’t rely on our offense putting up 60.

10-0

Top 30 defense

Losing Farrell & Vincent are tough blows though. Two veteran guys with a lot of snaps.

Maybe it’s just me, but Pelini was just just okay the last time here was here. He was terrible against Kentucky and couldn’t get off the field against Arkansas and UF. I think his defense will mirror Aranda’s defense.

A top 30 defense is a compliment

But by all means, continue to be a mouth breather
