NFL players get a game check. They get paid to play each game, so I doubt they would forfeit that.

They still get paid. They will just suddenly develop a mysterious injury or illness.

this actually happens if a player is far away from triggers that would let them get incentives or where they want to be traded.
If a player is close to reaching an additional incentive in his contract, he balls out.
I have seen coach’s sit players to not let them reach an incentive at the end of a season.
Watch the DE for the Saints this next game. He is 2 sacks away from 400K. There’s an article in the advocate today about him. Can’t recall his name.

It amazes me (it shouldn't) that fans can't recognize getting paid for something and not getting paid for something.

This whole "if he sits out in college he will in the pros too" is BS. If you don't perform in the pros, you get cut. Period. Yeah, you will likely see some players tomorrow on teams out of the playoff picture sit or take off as well. So what? Those NFL games are now meaningless as well. Save it for next year. Leave it up to the NFL teams who gets shut down and who doesn't.

Face it, CFB is slowly deteriorating before your eyes and for good reason. You are going to see more and more of this, and it isn't just happening at LSU.

The profession doesn’t matter.

A kid like Devin White is going to be a success no matter what he decides to do.

Kids that make these business decisions are a risk. Some may end up a good investment, but it doesn’t change the fact their character differs from others.

If y’all don’t think an NFL player wouldn’t sit out for selfish reasons, y’all are wrong. There have been plenty of guys who have done that. Whether it was over contract negotiations or other stuff, NFL guys have pulled that shite. It doesn’t work out for them.

Remember Peyton Hillis? He was a fullback out of Arkansas who was drafted by the Browns. He had an ungodly season in 2010. He wanted more money and sat out. His teammates and coaches hated him for it. He was a leader of that team and he decided to sit out for money. Eventually he was cut. I don’t even know where he is now.

I wonder if Randy or all of you agreeing with him realize the TEAMS THEMSELVES bench players all the time when matters have been decided to avoid injury.

So Devin White can't be a bust because he's playing one extra game?

Perhaps if Zero wants them to play, then he should get LSU to a post-season game that matters.

Otherwise, maybe he should, at a minimum, STFU.

My point may differ from others.

If I’m buying a disposable item from the store, I don’t care who sells it to me.

When it’s something more personal like my health or my monies spent on entertainment, or maybe even who I have to get in a foxhole with, it’s going to be the high character guy.

It’s about what motivates you, and those you choose to invest your time and allegiances.

I’m not an owner or manager of a sports franchise, but what I do own and operate, those that choose to patronize me know I’m in it for the right reasons. I sleep good at night.

If somebody leaves my office feeling like they got a Manny Machado effort, I’ve failed.

It’s just not difficult for me to understand where Randy Shannon is coming from. Maybe it’s my age, maybe something entirely different.

I absolutely hate the players decisions to not play in the bowl games. But it maybe the best possible circumstance to push for more playoff teams involved than the four it is now.
I will watch the LSU bowl game just like I watch every game. But I know this game and every other bowl game not a part of playoff system means nothing. Each year more stars choose to sit out and it only makes these teams and games more irrelevant.

I too am older and If you think a guy skipping a game that’s 4-6 weeks after the season is over that doesn’t have a lot of significance is a sign of bad character then I’d suggest the something else is you treating this entirely to seriously, it is after all an extra curricular activity.

The bowl system is an out dated model that started when it took a couple of days to travel by train, now it’s nothing but a money grab for everyone else. You’ve got 3 years worth of evidence to determine a kids character that he didn’t participate in an exhibition game and 3 more weeks of practice after the semester is over doesn’t show lack of anything

Not necessarily bad character.

Just pointing out the one with higher character and where I choose to apply it.

And when I’m paying more for tickets and travel to an event than I do on my family’s healthcare insurance, that definitely falls into the category of too serious and not just an extra-curricular activity. LOL

I recently decided to adjust my interest levels as they relate to investment.

My original quote in this thread was highlighted, but conveniently left off the last sentence, which was the point of my reply.

Wow, how clueless about different people’s circumstances can you get? Have you ever seen where some of these kids come from? Talk about “privledge” and living in a bubble

Again if you think it shows anything about character then that’s on you, it’s highly judgmental

It’s an extra curricular activity for THEM. It is after supposed to be about the players
