ESPN (second article down)
UCF coordinator: Players who skip bowl games likely to 'tank' in NFL
quote:

PARADISE VALLEY, Ariz. -- UCF defensive coordinator Randy Shannon thinks college players who are deciding to skip bowl games to prepare for the NFL draft will one day decide to not suit up for certain games in the professional ranks.

quote:

"My opinion, it probably will fester more and more in college. And then now the NFL is going to have to make a decision," Shannon said. "If you draft a young man that leaves early and now you're not a playoff team, that young man [is] going to say, 'I'm not going to play.' Same situation. Right, wrong or indifferent."

NFL players get a game check. They get paid to play each game, so I doubt they would forfeit that.

But I agree with everything else he said

Probably more likely to be the Leveon Bell type and sit out if they don’t get the largest contract ever because you know “business decision” and all

I agree 100%. Many of us have been saying this is a character issue, and it is.

I've been saying this all along

Someone on a non-playoff team goes all out if it's a contract year. But if they're locked up long-term then maybe they don't prepare or play the same

Not all players of course. But it's a real thing. and is a solid indicator of how they would react in the future

Former head coach Randy Shannon? Has a head coach of a P5 school ever dropped so low as he has.

This is really fricking stupid. It’s not even remotely CLOSE to the same situation. They are getting paid to play every game in the NFL and can be cut, be done and lose said money if they don’t. Not all players get guaranteed contracts.

Quitters will be quitters

If you quit on your college teammates then you will quit on your professional teammates

Bell lost 14MM this year because he sat. He will never make that up playing. It was principle for him. I sure hope the Texans get him next season!

It’s really not.

Why take a risk of getting hurt? You play and anything can happen. You dont and you’re guaranteed 20 million.

What would you do for your family vs what would you do for your team? Easy answer in my opinion.

Go ask people in any other profession that all of a sudden have to work in unpreferable or harsh conditions and dont get a pass.

Yeah and he did not get his second contract yet..... The one where the real money is made in the NFL

After he gets that second contract..... With his team eliminated from the playoffs..... Watch how fast he's going to hop out of bounds when given the opportunity. I don't know what is inside his heart

Maybe McCaffrey won't do that. But there are a lot of players that will

I was actually thinking about something similar earlier.

Right now it's very early in the process, and the NFL obviously doesn't care that a player sits a bowl game. They have shown, with the small sample size, that they will draft a player where expected.

However, as more data becomes available, what if there is numbers to show that players who sit out have other issues in the league. This may raise character concerns, and cause players to drop in the draft.

I'm not saying that will happen, but it seems to be the only possible solution to stop this trend. If it doesn't happen, then it will happen with more and more players every year.

Then you'll see some players start sitting out a portion of the regular season as well. It will be interesting to see where the Tipping point for the NFL is to drop players in the draft
