Danger zone. Schools. As in good, safe, excellent schools. Where will those be found in BR, or anywhere in LA? Long term prospects may include the child/school factor - including the “if Momma ain’t happy, then nobody is happy” principle.

Would you rather LSU be a football school or basketball school?

You watched his press conference after he was hired too?

I think the best case scenario is he does for us what Donavan did at Florida.

It is going to be a tough row to hoe though in getting folks interested in hoops. Much different time and culture than in the 80's.

I don't know how many of the blue-bloods made a play for Donavan, but I think if one of them made a play for Wade it would be tough to turn them down for a school that has not cared about hoops for a long, long time.

I don't think he's on any of those top schools radars yet, to get there he would need Final Fours on his resume and maybe even a national title at some point.

Just wouldn't be LSU if we didn't worry about the coach leaving. That no one worries about ours football coach leaving shows what a terrible hire it was.

Sure did. I also read about how his contract is written. I also remember Skip Bertman and things he spoke about. I also remember that contrary to how a lot of folks here act, Saban didn't leave LSU for a football "blue blood". He left for the NFL and he has openly stated he wanted to come back to LSU and leaving was a mistake. Circumstances made that impossible at that time unfortunately for us, but he never would have left for another college job and he's said that.

LSU isn't perfect, but it's a pretty special place and has great support for major athletics if the school invests in them.

Other than it being some deeply rooted inferiority complex, I'm not sure why some folks think so negatively about the university they supposedly love and support.

First of all..openings at Blue blood schools are fairly rare...and second, the resume of the coach hired by said blue blood is going to have to be pretty damn good. So in the unlikely event that 5 or 6 years down the road a blue blood hires Wade away from us...it means we went on one helluva run and the program is very healthy, which in turn should allow us to attract another really good coach.

Remind me again who our AD is and why anyone should think Wade would want to stay and work under him as opposed to a Duke, Kent., or any other basketball school?

If you told me before Nick Saban ever coached a game at LSU that he would win a national championship and set us up for another one but then bolt for the NFL, I'd say sign me the F up. Same goes for Wade.

Good! Our recent history of coaches looking to retire from LSU hasnt worked out great for us. I think all of our hires should be coaches looking to prove themselves. If we get lucky and one decides he really likes our state, then great, retain his arse.

its odd this board will hype up a basketball coach and shite on a football coach in a heartbeat.

Trent Johnson was a virtual coaching god that les miles could take some lessons from in running his football program right before he crapped out and was extremely average.

That said I like WW. I've talked to some guys that have known him for a long time and really think we have a good one here but still the talk of him leaving for Kansas or Duke before he has coached a game is a smudge over the top.

Most basketball schools don't hire new coaches too often so it will take a retirement or a Louisiville type situation. I think he is here at least 3 years before he gets recognition but if he can get us into the sweet sixteen that quickly he will gain some attention. He is young and has a long career ahead of him so if he is successful it's naive to think he will stay at LSU. Hopefully he can build a foundation and allow the next guy to come in and sustain it. I'd love to see him stay 10+ years myself because that means we are winning. If he can pull that off then he may very well end up in a basketball school down the road. The guy is barely in his 30s so those schools probably wanna wait to see.
