quote:Quit spreading BS. Mormons don't even believe in or practice paid ministry. They do it for free, and many of the missionaries pay for their own missions. It's a religion based on sacrifice, not profit.
The Mormon religion is all about $$$ just every other major religion

I'm a Mormon and enjoy my Dr. Pepper (Cola tastes like nasty medicine!).
However, I don't drink it all the time because one of the main reasons I live this health code is to avoid addictive and harmful substances. Many people who drink caffeine every day cannot function without it, and I don't want that.
You are right that there are people who abuse prescription drugs, but it's hard to blame religion for that. Church leaders warn against substance abuse of any kind. People make their own decisions.

Mormons are allowed to drink soft drinks and caffeine. You should update your knowledge.
Yes, I'm aware they are allowed soft drinks. They do not condone caffeine. That's why they only sell caffeine-free soft drinks at BYU and any church functions. I have plenty of knowledge seeing as I am from Utah County, my whole family still lives there, and am a former Mormon myself

Salt Lake City is full of hot Mormon girls that use Tinder, and go on more dates than any other city I know. I have been to three different Mormon Wards this year, and the people are great, but the experience is bazaar. They have speakers instead of an actual priest/pastor, and they can talk about anything they choose for 15 minutes. If you ever go don't make the same mistake I made when they pass the water. The empty soufflé cup goes in the center hole not back in the slot you pulled it from.

100% Agree. Worldly/Godly folks who haven't had the wool pulled over their eyes and know what's up - they won't be fazed, will actually smile and will be accepting.

I used to think Mormons as something akin to Amish, but nope, it turns out Mormons use power tools.

If you interact with BYU folks this weekend, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by their fan base and mormons in general. The Southern decadence vs mormon thing is lol worthy, but reality is that it won't faze these people at all...they will probably be highly amused.
Correct. Most of them are college-educated, intelligent, well-read, and far less self-righteous than the right-wing religious-fundamentalist bible thumpers that infest the American South.

Mormons aren't Christians

They identify as Christian. Why is this such a big sticking point for some people?

I have a few Mormon friends. All great people and very family oriented. I've always enjoyed my time in Salt Lake.

We used to feed a group of Mormon missionaries regularly, until one of the guys that rotated into the apartment came in a little to preachy. The regulars were kind of embarrassed. I think they got in trouble for making regular meal stops. Anyway, great kids. Makes me kind of wish that our Catholic kids had to do a year or two of mandatory service.

All of the Mormons I have known have been genuinely nice people who I have no problem with.
That said, I know there was a lot of strange bad blood between BYU and Memphis football fans before and especially after the Miami Beach Bowl in 2014. I was pretty surprised by it, especially considering that most Memphis fans are pretty laid back since the school has little history or tradition in football. They probably won’t try and get high and mighty with LSU fans, but they came off looking bad after that game, in my opinion.

for real. joseph smith came out of the mountains saying he saw some golden plates with commandments from god on them. Could you imagine how stupid people have to be to follow commandments on plates from some magical sky daddy? sound familiar?
Guess what. There are over 20,000 religions in the world. Chances are most of us are wrong.

I take the South Park view on LDS folks. The religion makes no sense to me personally or spiritually, but those that I know and have interacted with are some very fine people.
