Did you go to the FSU game in 1982? I remember the fans throwing oranges after LSU scored then throwing them at everyone after the game as the fans stormed the field. One of the coolest game experiences ever!

I was there as a student. We knew the oranges were coming and sat at the top of the student section to avoid getting hit.

I think most of the oranges came from the north end zone and I don't think they were thrown to intentionally hit people. That was just a result of the people being on the field.

I've been going to games since the late 70's.

I actually remember more drinking, fighting, and cursing back when, but no way in hell was an organized, offensive, potty-mouthed cheer like that existed..... BUT IT SHOULA ..... cause those other fans can....

Just look at everyday life in general. Women used to go to the beach fully covered. Now?
You used to never hear 4 letter words in public. Now?
So why would Tiger Stadium be any different?

Thank god we don't live in the middle east. It would suck to have to go to the beach fully covered.

Fighting, at one time, was an acceptable way of settling simple disputes. I was in a few flights in high school, but it wasn’t a big thing. If someone saw us, would both have to go to the principal’s office and he bring out his paddle and whip the shite out of us. Fist flights are a much bigger deal these days as for as the punishment which might be measured out to you. You can be expelled from school or even find yourself in jail. It doesn’t surprise me that there are less fights these days.

Well it boils down to this...culture as a whole has gone to shite. But thats a whole other argument for another day.

BUT, since TS is considered "our house" and just like I tell my children, we don't talk like that in "our house". Thats why many older people probably don't like the chant. Get it?

Just curious, did a lot of people used to smoke in tiger stadium back in the glory years?

students gonna student, no problem with that, based on my limited experience, of going to TS my entire life, I'm sort of skeptical of the story in the OP, there's always isolated incidents of obnoxious drunks at any big event, but I don't see things like that very much when I go to the games, sort of think it's a troll, will say that, imo, people in general are more obnoxious now than ever before, so.....STTDB!!!!

As far back as I can remember (pre-1979) smoking wasn't allowed in the seating areas but people did smoke out in the concourses.

It's outdoors, never bothered me, but it did clog those areas up more during halftime.

The problem with trying to be “ edgy “ is that the edge keeps moving, as each generation tries to make their mark. I call it a stain instead of their mark, but I’m old so what do I know, right?

I do. And I agree with you. My point wasn't made as well as yours. It's societal, and Tiger Stadium will represent those societal changes, too. I'm on your side.

Sure, there was the"a-hole a-hole" chant during the fight song which forced the song to be modified. This was late 80s early 90s. Don't let these sanctimonious hypocrites fool you.

I grew up in Tiger Stadium. I graduated in 81. The only organized chant with any cursing was the Ole Miss yell. Other than that, people were really respectful of the presence of children and/or others that did not appreciate vulgar remarks... except for those extremely drunk..

Overall... cursing was individual and not corporate.

I was there in '81 and the a-hole a-hole chant was around at that time or shortly thereafter.

Still not anywhere near as bad as what is said in 2018.

Late 80s was my first experience. No piped in music. No replay board. No advertising like today. Umbrellas were allowed and so was smoking.

Was it as much fun? I always had a good time. I currently don’t care for the ads, the excessively long tv time outs, or most of the piped in music.

Do I still go? Of course.

Student from 70 to 77.

Ole miss chant at most every game. Early years many Guys wore a cote and tie. Women dressed up.

I don’t recall seeing many fights or drunks, though lots of people had flasks.

That year LSU had only one black cheerleader and that poor girl had oranges thrown at her all night long. SMH It was the 80's

The fans at games in the 90s seemed poorer than the fans at games today, but they were also more into it.

For a lot of these fans, being at an LSU game was the highlight of their week or month, which made for an intense atmosphere.

I would put the % of drunks at around 50-60 %. Well, maybe 40-50. Some just drank to get pumped up for the game , enter tailgating. A lot of the rest of us just considered the game as part of the all day experience , and drank all day. And you left out my favorite cheer , "What falls out of a China man's ? RICE ! RICE!
