re: QB play didn't cost us the game!

Max can not get the ball down the field and it’s a major problem. It makes things very easy for defensive scheming if there’s absolutely no deep threat whatsoever.
The plays were the 3-8 yard routes, they gave the underneath... where he messed up is doing what you think he needed to do... throw to the second and third level.

Didn’t jordon Jefferson throw a ball up like that and get intercepted?
Ok, so. Should we just give Mac a pass because a in a game 10 years ago a different QB did something just as bad?

QB play alone didn’t cost is the game but let’s not pretend Max played well.
He made a ton of really bad passes, held on to the ball to long many times, threw an awful interception and then the blind backward toss thing (whatever that was).
This was a total team loss from coaches to players. So don’t make excuses for Max, he gets a share of the blame too.
100% this
I can't believe people keep making excuses for the QB play Saturday night.

Max not taking shots hurts the run and other things.

100% you don't understand football.
When he held onto the ball was not good, but the majority of the time he was taking what the defense gave him i.e. underneath.
330 yards, 3tds and 1int on the road with no rush games... is pretty freaking good for one's 3rd start bro.
Solid game.

Stop this shite. Yes he can, but not with this pathetic excuse for an Oline.
Can't let routes develop when you have defenders in your face as soon as you get the snap.

Bad OL play or not, you can't call Max a good QB. We simply don't know how he would look behind a competent OL. Personally, I think he's a middle of the road SEC QB at best regardless.

Max is a good QB. Coaches need to help him realize his potential.
No tempo, RPO and just old fashioned R = Max half-cocked gun.

Imagine TJ playing behind the same o line last year only with less experience
Posted on 9/6/21 at 10:48 am to GeauxFightingTigers1
We played right into their hands. Our defense and run game is not good enough to take the dink and dunk plays all night. I don’t think he played bad, but I don’t think he’s good enough to make up for all of our other problem areas. Problem areas that can not be fixed this year. We’re going to have to take some chances. And Max is not the guy to do that. I’m not sure we really have a choice though.

He's a good Qb at least at this stage, its his 3rd game with no rush attack. Very solid game.

Dude missed wide open TDs and consistently threw off his back feet and wayyyy behind WRs. He refused to step up into the pocket which allowed UCLA to rush the edges with zero issues. He had a terrible game any way you look at it.

No he didn't play well...but how much better would he had done and how many of those mistakes would have been eliminated if the oline would have given him better protection
Who knows. We can only guess. He made some awful passes even when he didn’t have a defender in his face.

This is common sense, you take what the defense gives you especially if you can't dictate terms. Without an OL and rushing attack exactly what do you want the QB to do?
They gave the underneath play, which is why he had 330+ yards.

I would take 3-7 yard uncontested pass plays all night.

The reality is we don't have an SEC-caliber OL and it shows every game. If Myles would have had decent protection, we could have won the game. He was making bad passes because he was getting killed back there and wanted to try and make a play. Any QB that is getting pounded into the ground every play isn't going to be able to make many plays. We're in for a long season because this OL is pathetic!

All of this, along with zero run game describes Myles and the 2020 offense to a T.
If we are being honest, Max in 2021 probably has a better offense to work with than Myles did in 2020.

A talented poorly coached team needs big plays to have a chance to compete at a high level. We are just not going to get that this year.

Huh. Doesn't everyone dream of big plays?

Ah…. The old stat line with no context argument
Sure that stat line without context looks great but tells you nothing.
Statistics are like bikinis. They show a lot but they cover the really interesting stuff.
Mac did not play well, no matter what the stat line says.

Yes he can
It doesn’t we couldn’t win with him, but with no deep threat, shite run game, and poor oline, dinking and dunking isn’t going to get it.
