LSU should have beaten Ole Miss

Agreed, but at the end of the day, all that cost us was two spots in the poll. The real issue was not having a defense (or a DC) good enough to let us hang with Bama & FSU (& potentially Georgia, if you beat Bama). That was the difference between a playoff berth and finishing out of the top 10.

AP will want the story of UGA finishing 3.

And they probably won't be wrong if they do it.

Why? Because they loss their only game to probably the best team in the country? LSU has 3 losses and one of them is to FSU. No way they finish above them.

LSU is 10-3 and lost to all the decent teams on their schedule except for Missouri during the regular season. Who cares where they finish this season sucked. Wrap it up and move on.

Agree that the talking heads could put Georgia there. It helps their conversations. I don't agree. Both Texas and Bama almost beat the teams in the natty. We almost had a Texas - Bama final game. I think the top 4 are the top 4.

I think LSU at 11 is about right.

The losers in the final four should drop below winners of bowls.

They lost. Now we go with good loses. Bama sucks.

I hate Bama, but they were damn close to playing in the championship. They don't suck in recruiting good players that play well on the field. They deserve to be in top 4.

I hope they end up 121 in next year's final rankings, though!

Florida State’s 1 loss was a bad one. I’m not sure they land at #6.

Lsu was preseason #5.
Lsu underachieved this year.

Maybe, maybe not. But why is the AP poll the arbiter of this? Half the voters don't even watch games beyond the team they cover.

And preseason rankings are a joke.

There’s only 10 teams that wouldn’t trade seasons with us. And realistically less than that since none of them brought home a Heisman.

I think all of those teams would happily trade better success for the Heisman trophy.

The bottom line is this. 2023 will (or should) never be considered to be a "bad" season. But it will ALWAYS be a wasted opportunity from tremendous success. With even an average defense, LSU is likely in the CFP. And following the FSU game the LSU offense became as close to unstoppable any anyone could realistically expect. So much so it was genuinely a surprise when LSU didn't score on a possession. Even Alabama was helpless to stop LSU until a tipped pass and a dirty hit.

Burrow had an unbelievable 2019 season. One that will probably go down as the best in LSU (maybe college football) history. But Daniels was a close to a one man "cheat code" as we've seen in a long time. Yes, even compared to Cam Newton. He was able to destroy defensive game-plans on his own because even if a defense did everything as perfectly designed, Daniels could still gain 40 yards.

This LSU defense had one of, if not the LOWEST bar for "success" of any defense in the 130 year history of the program. Yet, they fell woefully short of that. As a result, 2023 will always be one of the biggest "what if" seasons in program history

Georgia should be 4 and Bama 5. I believe a rested Georgia team would easily win against Bama.[/u]

Agree.

I know we'll always be asking "WHAT IF we had an even average defense" but this was a pretty good season.
Totally agree. Anytime you finish ranked #16 or above you can say that you made the "Sweet 16" as they say in college basketball or a Super Regional in baseball.

No matter who wins between Washington and Michigan, Georgia should be ranked number two in the final polls.
If Washington loses it'll probably happen.

FSU should at #21. It's how you finish that counts. Quitters don't deserve respect.

That's stupid. FSU got screwed and were completely unmotivated for that "bowl" game.

Based on one game with most of their starters gone? They might fall behind Oregon, but they aren’t dropping behind 3-loss teams, certainly not one they beat by 3 TDs.

I wouldn't be surprised if somehow ND is ranked ahead of us.

They were behind 3 spots behind LSU before the bowls and played a team without a coaching staff or QB. In recent years, the polls have started to recognize the limited value of bowls in the opt-out/transfer portal era. I think there’s very little chance they jump LSU. If anyone does, it will be Arizona, though I doubt they will either.

Our 3 losses were 36-5. No way F State is top 10.
