Not everyone listed will be on the roster in the spring. I compiled this based on announcements of those drafted but say they’re coming. I understand it will change, but this is what it looks like for now. Being limited to 34 players on a roster will make for some interesting decisions with these 39 (removed Madden Belding 7/20, removed Major Osbolt 7/26, added Logan Schmidt 8/1, removed Luke Tucker 8/6) guys listed below. Also, pending other draftees not coming to agreements. Who am I missing or included that shouldn’t be?

******UPDATED 8/6******
Not changing the original verbiage above about decisions to be made even though it no longer applies.

17 returning players:

Cade Arrambide, C
Mason Braun, 1B/OF
Casan Evans, RHP
Danny Lachenmayer, LHP
Steven Milam, SS

William Patrick, OF
John Pearson, OF/3B
Ethan Plog, LHP
Reagan Ricken, RHP
Jack Ruckert, INF
William Schmidt, RHP
Omar Serna, C
Zion Theophilus, RHP
Cooper Williams, LHP
Eddie Yamin, C

14 incoming freshmen:
Braxton Beaty, LHP
Coleton Brady, RHP
Brady Cupit, LHP
Nate Davis, OF
Parker Loew, IF
Jordan Martinez, IF
Dylan Minnatee, 1B
Lucas Nawrocki, LHP
Dominic Santarelli, 1B
Logan Schmidt, LHP
Cooper Sides, RHP
Kolby Stringer, RHP
Malachi Washington, OF
Brayden Wisener, RHP

8 transfer portal:

Well you're missing the newest transfer portal addition Kaden Smith so it's 41 but all the designated student athletes can stay on the roster without counting towards the 34 so it's likely we can carry all 41 of those.

Who all are considered DSA? I was just looking into it earlier and I guess it would be whomever was on the roster before August 2025?

Nobody actually knows who's DSA but you can bet it's atlesst 7 of the upperclassmen.

Or what is a DSA. I know it's Designated Student Athlete, but what does that actually mean. Is it like a walk-on? No scholarship? What are the parameters for playing? Is it like the NFL practice squad? Do they just work out and practice and if the coach sees improvement, he drops one of the 34 roster down to 'practice squad' and pick up one of the DSA's?

Who Qualifies: To be designated as a DSA, a player must have been on a Division I roster (or had a signed National Letter of Intent/recruiting offer) prior to April 7, 2025, and would have been cut due to the new 34-player limit.Exempt Status: Players tagged with this designation do not count against the team’s 34-man roster cap. They can continue to practice, compete, and receive scholarships for the remainder of their collegiate eligibility

With that explanation, I would think every upperclassman got tagged with that and we aren't going to see the full ramifications of the 34 man roster for a couple years.

That's what happened at a lot of places. And it's entirely possible that some of the transfers in are DSAs as well. Any of the ones that were at least sophomores last season could be.

Jay's target number was 41 per an interview he did. We're right on it now (assuming, as everyone is, that Murphy signs).

You will have a couple position guys leave voluntarily after the fall szn realizing their path to the field is logjammmed.

Maybe, but that hasn't really been a common thing around here.

Last year only one guy left at semester break and it was a LHP transfer that couldn't find the weight room.

Is it a given that Anthony Murphy is going to sign with Washington having been drafted in the 16th Round?

If he doesnt he's likely to head elsewhere because he was never a strong commitment here, never posts or talks about LSU in anything really.

He is a draft eligible sophomore and just wants to be a pro so for that to happen he needs to play right away in college if he doesnt sign pro right now and thats very unlikely to happen with our huge logjam in the OF right now between getting 3 portal outfielders, returning Patrick and also getting 2 (or 3 if you want to count Santarelli) top OF recruits coming in, which most would argue at least1 maybe 2 of those recruits might be ahead of him in the OF pecking order on top of those transfers and throw in Patrick as well.

It's not a situation a draft eligible sophomore looking to just go pro would want to find himself in.

Is Santarelli making it to campus?

His power is super impressive. Guy could be a star.

If one comes to LSU and is listed as a DSA, does that count as a year of eligibility against him or no?

Yes. The DSA tag (which could only have been applied at one specific time) doesn't affect eligibility. It only makes that guy not count against the roster limits.

Nah. It's basically just grandfathered in players that were submitted by their school at that time to eliminate them being cut to meet 34 man roster limits.
