Not religious, but other than it coming off a little "high school football" there is literally no harm by it.
We need more of that. College football is getting too corporate. It needs a little bit more of its grass roots back.

I'm staunchly in favor of separation of church and state but I don't think a prayer before a football game rises to the level of a legitimate first amendment issue based on that jurisprudence.
So what are your thoughts on why we haven't been doing one in Tiger Stadium for at least 20 seasons or more? We can agree that it's not because South Louisiana is anti-Christian, right?
They switched over from the prayer they had done forever (I know they did one as late as 1988) to the moment of silence jazz for a reason...

I have no clue what the motivation may be. I also wasn't at the game and didn't hear the content of the prayer. Was just giving you my opinion on whether or not it presents a legit 1st amendment issue.

I’m also curious what the general public and major national news outlets would say If LSU held a prayer before every class held at LSU. Most rational people would say that would be totally inappropriate, so why is a football game any different? I’d actually argue a football game is much worse considering the much much larger group of people that are exposed to it.
In my opinion, there is no Benefit to having prayer before a football game in Tiger Stadium. I absolutely respect everyone’s right to believe what they choose in their personal time and in their own homes and in their own head, but I do not find it appropriate at a football game. They make buildings for religious worship ... they are called churches... And Homes. There’s no logical reason to bring religion into a football game.
LSU could have a headache on its hand down the road if they continue this. If the right media outlet or attorney got a hold of it, LSU could actually get in some Trouble and - at minimum - have a PR headache on its hands that would only distract from the great things our football team is doing this season ON the field. We’re voluntarily potentially creating an off-the-Field issue when we don’t have to.
Would LSU ever endorse a political candidate over the loudspeaker in TS? ... Of course not...would be Totally inappropriate in a public university football game setting, just as prayer is.

I’m not religious either and I barely noticed it happened. The players are most likely mostly Christian and they’re the ones out there putting their body’s on the line for entertainment, so I’m sure a prayer for them isn’t a problem. Like I said I don’t think as a non-religious person that it effects me, but if a Muslim or Jewish fan was uncomfortable I could see their side of an argument.

I would be okay with prayer if it included some sort of human sacrifice, otherwise your are not really trying.

It depends on the prayer. If it is a full 20 decade rosary, I am in full support. Anything less and I completely object.

World needs Jesus. Go for it I say.

I missed the Northwestern game so I didn't hear it, but the game against Ga Southern was pretty bland, but obviously a Christian prayer.

I obviously disagree. This usually gets by in high school setting by sliding a student in there to suggest that it's just a student lead thing and not the state actor (the school) leading the prayer. They did not even attempt that little move here.
That said...I still do not understand why this seems so important to the religious folks. Why must EVERYONE stand there and do the same thing together? Can you not say a prayer for whatever it is you'd like to during the moment of silence...or at any other time? Knowing there are some in attendance that have no interest in taking part, why force this on everyone when you can be just as effective in your prayer request saying it in your own head?

Trust me...in 2019 on a college campus, this'll get shut down with a quickness. Then the butthurt will flow
I went to a Catholic school, and in our pre game prayer we always asked for help from the "Lady of Victory". If Mary was a big sports fan she must have been real disappointed in Jesus.

Right! We have been fine with the moment of silence for decades now, but suddenly when this gets shut down, there will be outrage over the loss of this thing which has not been a things for about 25+ years.

Went to a public school and we said the Our Father before baseball games...though we ended with the stirring "Mother Mary, pray for us!" Covered more bases and whatnot...

I'm okay with it. No one was hurt except for a few prog's feelings.

not true comrade.
name the religion that cuts off your head if you do not conform to their beliefs?

You don't have to. You can go get a beer or go take a dump.

Sensitive atheist are gonna be so worried they are gonna catch the religious bug.

Maybe I missed it, but what made it Christian? I didn't hear anything about Jesus (or God). I did hear an amen at the end, but that simply translates to "so be it".
