Damn! I just talked to Kevin Saturday before the game. As a father of 4 and 2 daughters this absolutely turns my stomach.

Pray for Kevin Faulk today
How does a 19 year old girl who is healthy have a heart attack? So sad…

How does a Loyola Marymount student athlete basketball star collapse and die on the hardwood? Life can be cruel and unjust at times. Just pray for Kevin and stop with all the conspiracy theories and rumors in here. As a parent I cannot fathom what he and his wife are going through but I’m sure they need and appreciate all of our thoughts and prayers.

Met her a few weeks ago when I stopped by the ops building. Just in shock.

You could tell she was an incredibly bright young lady. Would have had no idea she was Kevin's daughter if Ya'el hadn't have told me. Talked to her for a while before leaving- she had aspirations of becoming a neurologist to help address CTE... Really sad to see her loss. Prayers up for the Faulk family

Myocarditis?

It’s more common now but still not common for people under 40 to have heart attacks.

I don't know for sure and it doesn't really matter, but from what I was told (which I can't confirm) is that it was like.. I guess maybe something like Wally Pontiff or Hank Gathers had.

People assume all hypertrophic cardiomyopathy deaths are myocarditis caused now because it’s a fancy new word they have learned over the last year (even though that’s dilated cardiomyopathy and even rarer than hypertrophic which is already extremely rare)

Myocarditis is no more common now that it has been in the past. It would, however be one of the more common causes of sudden cardiac death in her age group - which of course is rare. Good chance that if it were the underlying cause, it would be apparent at autopsy, if there is one. There are many potential causes that have been mentioned such as HCM (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy) as well as a fatal arrhythmia from a conduction abnormality (such as Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome), and numerous others. When I hear "heart attack" to me that means MI, and in the traditional sense, that would be very low on the list of likely causes in a female of this age group. Of course all of this is speculation on my part, as I have no idea what happened other than having heard "heart attack" thrown around.

The thought of this is terrifying, and despite understanding how to deal with such things professionally, I don't know how I could get through such a situation personally. I met Kevin Faulk a few years ago at an LSU event, and he spent time listening to my fanboy remembrances of watching him in his playing days and taking photos with my son. My heart breaks for that family and I truly wish them the best through all of this.

I believe he knew he had an arrhythmia and quit taking his meds. Very different than this.
