What did that initial contract look like?

My understanding is that contract is less about Coach O than the industry.

Maybe it's nonsense, but what coach or recruit wants to commit to a school that doesn't even reward a coach for winning an NC?

If this very evident fact can be mis quoted and mis represented by the media and gobbled up by the mob, how many more behind the scenes facts are being manufactured for PR purposes? This thing is a circus.

You're just trying to find a reason to blame him. Woodward is only responsible for Kelly's contract. Once Ross Bjork gave him an extension, it was no longer tied to Woodward.

I feel better about the 100 million dollar contract now. Apparently LSU honey-potted BK when he arrived, he took the bait and the move discounted the contract by 30%. So instead of being a 100 million dollar contract over 10 years it's ending up being a 70 million over number of years yet to be disclosed (minus the 1 million he gave up last year...netting 69 million).

Yes, but they had an out that was reasonable. Bjork made it worse.

Woodward has a hand in 3 of the top 10 largest coach buyouts in college football history. This guy acts like he is paying in monopoly money since he has had zero repercussions to this point for his terrible negotiating of football coach contracts.

Cant argue with that, all great points. Just pointing out on National tv they are inflating the numbers and the facts. Most dont actually know the time line of everything. It does make it a lil easier to accept if Woodward does in fact hang around.

I think the lesson here isn't the annual rate but hopefully a shorter term (like 7 years) so there is less to buyout after four years if you can manage that.

Agreed, 10 years of success is so hard to sustain at any level of anything.

You reward with a one-time bonus, not a long term contract extension with exorbitant buyout when there is no demand for that coach's services elsewhere.

Woodward is universally hated by two large fanbases now. I suspect his term is nearing a close when your President is seated.

100% agree. I don’t think the salary itself was really problematic at all. The problem was the 10 year contract with 90% of remaining salary guaranteed.

What was the reasonable out? He had a 10 year $75M contract that was fully guaranteed with no offsets

ATM fans who hate him are full of shite considering that Jimbo was the only candidate on their list. It's nice to not taking any responsibility for anything

He only had a lil over three years left on the original contract until the extension in 2021 that Woodward had nothing to do with.

If they had never extended Jimbos contract it still would have been the largest buyout ever until this year with Franklin and Kelly. Leaving Woodward with 2 of the top 3 buyouts ever.

But still a lot more manageable/reasonable than after the extension, lol.
