This!

My sister worked as student assistant worker for the LSU athletic department, but not women's basketball directly, when this went down. Everyone in the AD building new Pokey was in a long term relationship of over 5 years with a former player who was playing professionally in Europe. Pokey was an assistant coach when the relationship started. Nobody cared until that C U Next Tuesday of an assistant coach Carla Berry threatened to take the story to ESPN because her and Pokey had a falling out late in the season. LSU folded to Carla Berry's threats and threw Pokey under the bus even though everyone already knew about the relationship. Last i had heard Carla Berry has never coached since.

Can we just have her back now? Has the statute of limitation run out yet?

All in favor say aye

Putting aside her personal shortfalls, has there ever been a more impressive stretch in LSU sports history?

Yes there absolutely has. Skip, Satan, Les, and CPM have actually won national championships lately.

Les 2007-2011 is far more impressive.

Pokey couldn't win the big one. She had 3 consecutive WNBA rookie of the year players on one team and couldn't win the National Championship. She had two of the best players of all time on one college team (Augustus and Fowles) and couldn't win the big one. She could recruit, but Augustus and Fowles came because of Gunter, not Pokey. She filled the void when Gunter got sick. She got outcoached by Mulkey (less talent on Baylor, but they beat her in the Semi's in 2005 when Baylor won it all with only one WBNA player on the roster).

Pokey was the primary recruiter for Sue so you're giving her too little credit.

Exactly! ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

We weren't getting those ESPN 100 type recruits UNTIL coach Gunter turned over the primary recruiting responsibilities to Pokey.

As for her departure, what I'd heard from the folks I know in the Fastbreak Club is that she had a relationship with a player when she was an assistant coach. Apparently it was something that coach Gunter knew about but didn't report. With that being said, it sucks that they basically forced her out because they found out about an improper relationship from years ago. I can understand their position, but it still sucks.

There's no doubt in my mind that had she stayed, we'd have continued making final fours, winning SEC championships, and would've won an NCAA championship at some point. Everyone also needs to keep in mind, Pokey was a young coach when she made those final fours. She had just started her head coaching career and was what.........................37, 38 years old? We'd have continued being a power had she continued to coach here. I doubt that she'd have ever left for the WNBA. But that's all water under the bridge now. Now, we've got to hope that coach Caldwell's recruiting will be greatly improved or, that he AD moves on to a new voice.

Maybe at the NCAA level. She has been at McGill Toolen HS for years leading them to a title. I believe her daughter goes to LSU. She was on the field for a game this year for some award.

I was "dating" one of the players when Pokey was playing ball. She was super nice person as well as an outstanding ball player. I really like her and wish they had kept her personal life out of it. Anyone who doesn't know that women's basketball (at least when we were in school) was populated with 70% lesbians is just uninformed.

In our defense, we really didn't get a chance to appreciate the girl on girl action - and I'm not aware that any videos exist.

The problem was never one of her being a lesbian.

The problem was that Skip became aware of her violating a university regulation regarding coach and student-athlete relationships. When he confronted her on it, she pretty much admitted it and Skip had no choice.

It pretty much played out exactly how it would in any large corporation if a supervisor is caught sleeping with a subordinate and someone else complained about favoritism or hostile work environment.

All that said, I was disappointed to see her go. She is the only student athlete from LSU since I enrolled who became a successful head coach at any location. It was special that she was representing her alma mater on the sidelines. I'm not sure we will ever see that in football.
