I am consistently amazed at the stupidity of your contributions to this site. Bravo!

Thought LSU wasn’t going to be filed in this lawsuit?
It’s a good thing that we ARE in it. It keeps this situation from being used by the SEC as surface evidence of possible collusion as they try to prop up their empty federal suit and keep it from being dismissed. The fact that we are being sued shows that the athletes and their lawyers aren’t treating LSU differently than the SEC over not acting on their court order.
We also have the cover of being under duress from Sankey using his punitive new rules and a federal suit to prevent us from rostering these players.

That's a very short time frame for the SEC to do that
It only takes a few minutes to draft and send an email saying that if you (LSU) rosters the players, the conference will enforce any and all penalties, up to and including expulsion against LSU, regardless of the court order.

There are plenty of public statements by the SEC and SEC mouthpieces well after the contempt ruling indicating a desire to circumvent the state court’s ruling and severely punish LSU (1) if they did roster the players and (2) for even trying to roster the players.
It’s an interesting fact pattern that if litigated to its conclusion could become a pretty big precedent setting case. What the SEC did was use the threat of federal court overturn of a state court’s ruling injunction (and the accompanying threat of retroactive penalties) to coerce a party into ignoring the state court’s injunction in a situation where a failure to immediately act by the coerced party resulted in permanent harm to the plaintiff. Who ends up holding the bag in that scenario? Is it the aggrieved plaintiffs who were entitled to relief by the state court, the party coerced into inaction by the dueling lawsuits, or the entity that was ruled against in state court and then used the threat of punishments and an overturn by federal court to coerce the outcome they wanted?

That was our argument, until we played a soccer player—that's my point.
the soccer player doesn’t break the new SEC rule and that is what they were threatening us over.

Which ones occurred between the ruling and September 4?

Which was not novel. The Big12 had already done this, to great success.

With federal supremacy, I think anything exclusively related to the suit has to show extreme bad faith, no merits, etc., which can't be examined until that was ruled by the federal court itself.
Otherwise, you permit rogue state courts to effectively neutralize federal peremption and supremacy.
Also, if the initial federal suit was filed prior to the judge's ruling, it can't be contempt, anyway.

Was the state court aware of the federal lawsuit at the time of the ruling? It was filed literally the same day as proceedings so I’m not sure it was contemplated by the ruling. Regardless I agree you would be hard pressed to find the filing of the lawsuit, in and of itself, coercive. The key, in my view, is that the SEC made clear it would enforce severe retroactive penalties on LSU in the event it won the federal suit. Therefore it is not the filing of the suit itself that is coercive, but using the suit to coerce LSU to behave a certain way before the suit was decided.
On the Big 12 point, you don’t have the same temporal element of retroactive penalties because that was happening in the offseason. TT just decided it didn’t want to fight it out. Here, because of the roster deadline, LSU really had no choice given the outcome of the federal suit wasn’t decided.
What the sec could have done was say “there will be no penalties for LSU or any other school following a state court ruling unless and until we receive a preemptive federal court ruling overturning the state court injunction, at which point we would expect immediate compliance.”

Was that in the original complaint or the amending complaint (which was filed after September 4)?

There’s also thousands of other kids that are eligible to play in the sec and LSU. Doesn’t mean they are good enough.
I just don’t understand why that’s a sec and lsu’s problem. Obviously not all athletes that are eligible will play in the sec bc of a thousand different reasons

Let's risk it for a sport no one cares about but back off for football.
There's no risk, though, legally. And SEC's punitive measures are not backed by law. The reason LSU backed out is because of the threat by SEC and the media optics. They would be justified to play those players and SEC cant' do anything about it.
The players will sue, and they will be awarded damages by the SEC and Sankey. LSU has a reasonable defense that they were being coerced and threatened by Sankey/SEC. This will not play out the way the SEC wants it to play out.

And, we were forced to do what we did by SEC rules.
None of this is on LSU.

The SEC, in the face of an injunction, announced in advance that it intended to convene on expelling LSU & then filed a federal lawsuit seeking pretextual relief from consequences (indicating they knew they were legally vulnerable).

See “pretextual relief”. Quite literally the entire reason the SEC filed a federal suit at all. To ask for special permission to do something they knew they wouldn’t otherwise legally get away with doing.

The big12 case is not comparable because the case succeeded based on threats from an AG that have no analog here. Conference certainly tried to bait LA, but nobody took it.

With federal supremacy
This doesn’t apply to seeking relief from a state injunction on zero merits via a case that will never be heard.
I think you just masturbate to downvotes atp.
