Jefferson - 6' 3" 192

Ruggs - 6'0" 190
Higgins - 6'4" 210

Here's what I think the predraft eval will be

PROS:
good precise route runner
catches ball with hands
not bothered or distracted by tight coverage
rises to the moment, not intimidated by spotlight
good frame to add more weight

CONS:
doesn't have elite deep speed

^^ Agree, and:

IMO, Jefferson's biggest pro is helping his QB when all receivers are covered. Jefferson invariably finds a hole in the defense when the designed routes are a bust. NFL OCs and QBs put a high value on that trait.

I agree with how they evaluate, but Justin was good last year and this year.

On the flip sude about chark. He had a good season, then started off another good season and got hurt.

Dude is lethal as they come against a zone. He just has a knack for finding the open space and then he's very good after the catch. And he's tough. However, I don't think he's better than Lamb, Jeudy or Higgins. I haven't seen enough of the other guys to form an opinion either way. I'd be shocked if he doesn't have a better NFL career than at least 4 guys on that list.

Michael Thomas was like the 6th wr taken in his class and we saw how that went

Yeah he’s a little lanky and doesn’t have the elite speed like some of the others but I think he’ll pan out fine. Hope he has a long career

Running good routes matter. Ask all the DB’s back in the day that covered Steve Largent (now showing my age).

If that was true, he would slide to late 2nd early 3rd in the draft where the Saints could draft him.

Outside of his ability to make separation on under routes, Jefferson will struggle at the next level against elite CBs.

you mean like the way Michael Thomas of the saints struggles to get separation?

Chark ran a 4.34 forty and had a 40 inch vert. And was still the 8th wr picked. JJ will no doubt be a top ten wr if he puts up those numbers

Jefferson will put up better numbers than people expect but not like that. Jefferson runs much better routes and has much better hands than Chark however.

Hopefully the Saints will get him at a steal, would be terrific slot and take pressure off Thomas

I will make this simple. I am a Ravens fan. I originally loved the Colts since 1966. I would love the Ravens to get Jefferson. He attacks the ball which would be great for Lamar as he isn’t quire as accurate as Joe.
I have no doubt he will find a place.

Not number one, but certainly top 10. Great shot at 1st round imo.

You can add that he's superb at getting separation and is crazy good at finding space in zone coverage. He's also shiftier than people think.

It's weird. He doesn't seem like has elite speed, but he seems to run away from most DB's he faced. Outside of the UGA game, I don't remember any DB catching him from behind.

The more I study Jefferson and study past drafts and this draft class, I do think he is on the path to drop into the 2nd, and maybe even the 3rd rd. And look, I’ve been a JJ guy before this board even realized he was a draft prospect and had one of the best seasons of any soph WR in LSU history. . That is my guy.

This class is just so deep at WR. Early in the draft teams are targeting lead WRs. While I think JJ can lead a team in receiving, im not sure he is a “lead” WR

The good news for him is he has a niche, and the nfl is more specialized than ever. So hopefully a team recognizes him talents & knows how they want to use him.

Will revisit after the draft. I just takes one team. Could have a Calvin Ridley situation at the end of the 1st..

I can't speak for the bottom 10, but this group has multiple years of excelling at their position, not just one season with a Heisman winning QB

Jefferson has had more catches and yards than Ruggs in each of the last two years, and I believe at the time he had more yards as a sophomore WR than any other sophomore LSU WR since Josh Reed in 2000. He had a really good year even when our offense was very average and other fan bases thought Burrow was just a game manager at best.

Yet, even though he led the team in receiving and was 5th or 6th in the SEC in receiving yards with 875, for some strange reason you still said you would rather see LSU play Dillon or Anderson over him before the season started.

This shouldn't need to be explained, but NFL teams don't use yards to evaluate a player's potential impact. They evaluate physical evidence, not circumstantial evidence.

Circumstantial evidence, no. But physical evidence such as yards after catch, yards after contact, film of separation from defenders, film of route running, yes. None of that is circumstantial evidence. I’m thinking you may need to brush up on your definitions.

Good. Saints can draft him in the later rounds. Oh, Ruggs is overrated.
