nah
They didn't think they could execute zone with the personnel they had on the field.
If you want to point criticism, that's where it lies...being unprepared.

He shuts down half the field. And tracks the ball better than any CB LSU has ever had. If they had the balls to make some of those throws on him, he would have had 2-3 INTs.
That allows you to give help to the other guy and just let Sting do his thing

My guess is this wasn't only on Bo...

There is probably some truth to that. For 4 years Ed has desperately wanted DT's who would attack the QB vs. just eat up gaps and blocks. That's fine...when you have the guys who can do that. Right now, LSU's DT's are still more of the 3-4 style. The freshman DT's (Roy and Guillory didn't play) along with his most veteran DT (Logan). The other guys are BIG guys (Ika and Farrell) who just couldn't hold up physically having to play so many snaps. Eventually he may get those Russell Maryland, Warren Sapp, Leonard Williams DT that just collapse everything inside. Saturday wasn't that day. And despite Gaye having a really good game, the lack of push from the DL left young DB's exposed and exhausted.
Without a few opening games to see that maybe his DL isn't as great as he thought it is/could be he couldn't adjust from the style he likes. Now that they were exposed a bit I suspect you might see some adjustment and some realization of we'll get there eventually with the DL...it's just not right now

Some of our DBs, I won't name names, looked like they were LEGIT scared of contact.
With the way LSU built their roster, those guys weren't scheduled to be a big part of the secondary until next year.
Just about all of those guys in the 19' class had 2-3 years of physical development ahead of them before they were to be every snap players.

It’s still inexcusable not to try it. The result couldn’t have been any worse.
That’s not true though.
The defense half the time was good.
4 turnovers, 3 punts. forced a few field goals.
I know that was bad, but honestly it could have been worse given the number of possessions they had.

There is a possibility that Bo had no trust in our very young inexperienced secondary to play Zone when were primarily a Man team.
Maybe
You can run Man on the outside and zone the middle and over the top.
When you haven’t slowed them down, passing for 300 in first half...might need to mix it up.

the specific player I'm talking about is either a junior or senior

Bo dropped 7 into coverage on at least two of the touch downs. At some point , players are accountable.
Ricks gave up a TD bc he undercut the route looking for the pick 6. Pressure was perfect. Ricks coverage was perfect. If he maintains discipline and stays with the receiver, it’s incomplete and 4th down. I will give Ricks credit, he learned quick and played well after that one.
On the last TD, Bo dropped 7. MSU is going to throw it in the end zone bc of the down and distance. At some point the DB has to be aware and realize that the only thing he can’t do is get beat down the field. Guess what—guy is flat footed at the line and gets beat.
Youth, inexperience and lack of Stingley’s leadership hurt us really bad. Leach took advantage of Evans and Ward at every opportunity. Tough to hide guys when you have to play them. They should get better.
Y’all down play Brennan all you want, but he is the problem. He has no excuses after 3 years. Ward, Evans, Ricks—-all of these guys have a year or less (Evans of real football).

It’s at least a lot closer.
Not only would Stingley bring what Stingley brings but he does keep a few guys off the field.
Flott gets to play slot exclusively.
Evans probably doesn’t play at all.

Ricks looks like a guy you can put opposite of Stingley. Liked what he showed with his ball skills, and looked confident despite going through some growing pains.

How?
What part about that performance would not make a fan go crazy?
After all the sunshine pumping Coach O did about the defense.
It was horrendous and embarrassing to be honest with you. But as always

You’re talking about Todd Harris, we get it. Mo Hampton blew a tackle or 2 as well. Surprising. Safety play was awful (Jacoby’s pretty much a LB at this point, not talking about him)
I was kinda wanting to see Cam Lewis. He gave us some good snaps last year.

He hasn't shied away from not so subtle shots at Aranda and how much he likes this defense more.
One game won't tell the tale, but yeah I agree with you, O wanted an I told you so moment, sure didn't get it Saturday.
The "our defense looked better now than at any time last year" statement might need to be walked back too.

Exactly.
Saying this defense was better than at any point last year was 100% coach speak and a shot at Aranda. That's the extent of that.

Hope that he took a long look in the mirror after that performance. It's like the defense is going to get the big turnover or get burned for a quick 6.

This article is gold.
There is nearly 25 years of info on Leach’s offense. It the same plays over and over. Not being prepared with adjustments is the coaches fault.

I agree.
Outside of trying to jump the route and misjudging it he was pretty good all day.
Ricks and Stingley in the outside and the. You just gotta figure everything else in the middle. Flott maybe isn’t an outside corner. At least not yet.
