It would seem on paper that this was not the group to play man coverage with. That is exactly what LSU did, though, and it cost them dearly

quote:

Out West, the Washington Huskies had great success running any type of zone coverage against Leach’s attack. Over the past two seasons, the Huskies ran Cover 1 or Cover 2 man only eight times on 114 pass plays. They also rushed three or fewer players 77% of the time. They chose to sit back and allow Gardner Minshew and Anthony Gordon to make mistakes. In two games, those quarterbacks combined for only 459 yards, 0 touchdowns, four interceptions and five sacks. Meanwhile, LSU allowed over 600 yards in one game.

Bo

I know who was missing out there Saturday, but my goodness.

I hated playing zone as a young db but a little could’ve gone a long way especially against that scheme and how Leach calls it.

My guess is this wasn't only on Bo...

Ed hated Aranda's Zone and wanted something more aggressive. I'm betting he didn't want to switch to Zone because of this. He wanted to prove his approach has validity.

LSU has too much confidence in their DBs. The group I saw on Saturday were slow, out of place, and didn't know how to tackle.

I don't know if it goes that deep but Ed did seem to go out of his way to routinely praise Bo and slight the previous scheme

so now they want to talk about all of the inexperience out there which is all well and good....had you not spent weeks telling us how great and advanced this defensive unit is.

Let’s start with the roster. LSU was already going to be without safety Grant Delpit and cornerback Kristian Fulton, who were each drafted in the early rounds of the 2020 NFL Draft. The Tigers then lost nickel back Kary Vincent Jr. to an opt-out before the season started and all-world cornerback Derek Stingley to illness the day before the game. That’s 3528 snaps not playing from last year's national championship secondary.

There is a possibility that Bo had no trust in our very young inexperienced secondary to play Zone when were primarily a Man team.

I suspect w Stingley the game plan would’ve faired much better. Very hard to switch to something you prob don’t practice much. But the lack of quality depth at that position was exposed. Bo smart enough to know now he has to hide a few of our guys with some zone. Interesting to see if he earns that paycheck and reaches those kids mentally to improve across the board.

So...Coach O meddled in the defense?

while i agree with this sentiment....O brought some of this on himself by telling people that this defense is better now than at any point last year. that is apparently not real life.

They want to blitz more and attack-attack-attack

Great. But really terrible approach for this particular game. You’ve got to take risks but not to the point where your whole defense becomes a whack-a-mole

Because I like Coach O I am going to say this...

Hopefully Coach O doesn't pull a Dinardo and get too invested in something that doesn't work...

Cough cough.. Lou cough cough...

they win the game if Stingley plays

Jay Ward and Evans were not even scheduled to play, per O.

It’s still inexcusable not to try it. The result couldn’t have been any worse. If it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work and you won’t be faulted for trying to adjust and the players couldn’t handle it.

But you have to fricking try.

Without being too shitty towards specific players,

Some of our DBs, I won't name names, looked like they were LEGIT scared of contact. I mean I almost roasted a couple for legit not even trying to tackle MSU's big WRs. This reminded me of Texas AM when the first joined the SEC. The fact that this specific kid got playing time for LSU is an absolute disgrace. Sad thing is he's been here for 3-4 years now.

Myles B. looked like he had the yips, couldn't stand in the pocket or dump off to wide open receivers after 3 seconds.

I agree, Sting makes at least a 7 point (if not more)difference imo

Im pretty sure 26 got benched in the second quarter. Felt bad for him. Only been here a couple weeks. It’s definitely a “perfect storm” element at play but we’ve got to figure out some alternatives against teams like uf and bama who can throw it at a high level
