My point from the beginning. The batter stepped out of the box before the catcher reacted to the throw from the mound

It all happened at the same time but I agree anyway because the batter vacated the box on his own, not because the catcher moved him out.

The rule guy on later said the balk was called on the catcher as well as interference.

I can not ever remember a run scored without the player tagging home plate.
We recently lost a run cause the runner did not tag third.
I think it is absurd that no challenge is allowed on a play that could determine the outcome of the game. When a run is scored a challenge should automatically be allowed. Seems like football has automatic review of all the touchdowns scored.

The SEC statement is a clear admission they know they totally screwed up this situation. If the SEC truly felt they were correct they would leave him suspended.

An admission that he should not have been ejected, yes. An admission that they got the catchers balk call wrong, no. Two separate issues.

It's in the rules. If the runner is originally called out, he does not have to touch home.

Goes to show you what an "Umpire's Judgement Call" can make when the call itself was horribly wrong. Then to top it off, this so-called rule is "Not Reviewable"! That needs to change and needs to change this coming year!

If he's originally called out then the play isn't reviewable and can't be reversed.

I’m completely fine with the umps making an incorrect judgement call. Neal didn’t touch the plate but he wa every close. That’s fine

What I’m not fine with is them not explaining who changed the call? The home plate ump said out. Who reversed it?

Then they also were a circus getting play resumed as well

Right. How did they change a call that's not reviewable? I still don't know what the "judgment" was. Catcher had the ball in his hand. My understanding of the "rule" is that he was fine where he was.

One of the biggest bungles I've ever seen.

Exactly, the play is not NOT reviewable. How in the hell do you change an original call of out 10 minutes later. Umps need to be reprimanded.

It’s like if a call at first is out. The umps convene and change the call with no video review. Pathetic

To me the only way that can happen is if one of the other umps overruled him during their conference. But I never saw any of the other umps signal for a balk. And none of the other umps could possibly have seen where Neal was positioned in relation to home plate.

Plus - all SEC umpires who worked the LSU vs USCe game will be fired for pure incompetence and stupidity.

Would set a bad precedent. After a few games, the league would run out of umps/refs.

What was with the quick hook in the first place?

Refs (any sport) are always more touchy when they know they are wrong. You can usually get away with a lot more when they are sure of their decision.
