think you’re making way too big a deal out of an assistant basketball coach hire. It’s neither great nor terrible

My thoughts exactly. Johnny Jones has been a successful HC. I don't care about "major recruiting"...hell we as a basketball program have been out of that too for the past few years. NIL brings the deal home, coaches still have to get you in the door. I'm a bit shocked that we don't understand this concept yet. I'd rather us have a Tiger on the staff that has been around the block, then some rando from Nevada or somewhere with a similar resume.

Recruiting is totally different now. Johnny jones is 65. I wonder how many assistants Wade has had over 50, much less 69. Just seems like someone forced this
LSU has essentially remade its administration and athletic department to accommodate Wade. I doubt anything is being "forced" upon him.
Wade's NC State staff had two guys who were with him at LSU and McNeese. I'm thinking this is a move to try to increase LSU's fundraising efforts in Louisiana. Jones wasn't a great in-game coach. But he's well entrenched in the LA basketball booster circle. That's likely the role he will be serving. I doubt he will be doing the primary game scouts.
Memphis is doing the same thing with Tony Madlock. Madlock resigned as HC at Alabama St. to take a job on the Memphis staff. He's from Memphis, played at Memphis, and was an assistant coach at Memphis

JJ as an assistant is great. Not sure of the issue here. You just don't want him as head coach.

Dumb . Simmons average 19 PPG 12 rebounds and 5 assists while shooting 56% in his only season of college basketball.
Good stats. Too bad he also didn’t want the ball when it came to crunch time and quit on his team.
At least it wasn’t just a college thing; he quits in the NBA every season.

Basically his biggest downfall was getting Ben Simmons here.
Right. There was actually plenty to be excited about before the Ben Simmons year. We just made the tournament and the program looked to be on the upswing, but JJ didn’t have the personality to handle the train wreck of really big time basketball. If instead of getting Simmons and Blakeney, he returned Mickey and Martin there is no telling how much longer he would’ve been the coach.

Nailed it.

Low energy hire and low energy fire......pretty much no energy if we're being honest

Wrong . With two weeks left in the season they were in contention for the regular season title. Then Hornsby was injured and their best outside shooter was out of th elineup. Simmons was far from any issues with that team. Quarterman was jealous of him. Every coach in America would take those stats.

When Ben Simmons first got to the nba I was huge fan
Looking at what transpired I realized that he just cared about money and fame, not basketball
Do I think he cared initially when he got here, yes but when Hornsby went down with an injury the 2nd time, you saw the writing on the wall
Blakeney was the only guy on that team playing with everything by the end of that season

They offered him 8 million dollars to leave and he asked which door you want me to walk out of.

Ben Simmons played soft as shite and couldn’t be bothered to play defense. Whenever the game was on the line he was terrified of having the ball in his hand
I couldn’t care less about his stats he was a loser. You’re telling me someone with his stats couldn’t keep it together after losing one guy?
He quit when it got tough like the loser he is

Doesn't mean all those in elite 8 are making that. As i said, offer all top programs coaches and they will listen.
