Every thing I've heard from folks moving in and around both circles to both sides of those situations, have said both dynasty HCs could've been retained in BR, with a lil more appreciation, and not having to fight to get what they desired..if get it at all..especially the Henry situation. And LSU's former AD should've had some protocols, shouldn't make unilateral decisions on comings and goings. Mal Moore and Bill Byrne saw once in a generation HCs for the taking..thanks!

You heard one side of it. There is another that may change your perception of it. Henry situation was a little different in that there was a better shot he could have been retained if the right decisions were made. His was more like the case of the one who got away who should not have. However, not the same with NS. NS wanted concessions and made a stance that most ADs and many boards would not agree to. There was a steep price to pay (and more than just dollars) to keep him from NFL.

If I was Skip I would have done the same thing he did in 2004 and when Nick wanted his job back after NFL experience. Two sides to every story. Mal Moore was a weak AD who retained his job through the years via politics and who got lucky at the end. Skip was a strong minded AD who did not want his legacy or the interests of the University running in second to one man (granted part of that was ego). It is Louisiana State University ... not Nick Saban University, Les Miles University, Skip Bertman University or any other x coach's name University.

End of 2004 sugar bowl I think, but that 07 Florida game when they announced the USC score and we knew we'd be in season #1 if we won is close.

Peak is a good term because I've fallen a considerable amount to the point now that I don't even care about going to games.

lsu 34 uga 13. sec championship and on to the bcs game. had to listen to 3 months of "we were the better team in baton rouge", and a multitude of excuses. absolute curb stomp and shut the dawg nation up. made my living situation very nice. on the cusp of finally seeing a natty and I had no doubt we were taking it.

Agreed. Wished we could have done the same on 1/9/12 and killed all talk about the GOC earlier. It was great to be a Tiger in Dawg country back then. I annoyed co workers, friends and neighbors with my LSU flags being on my car continuously around both games and after 1/4/2004. Proudly wore my LSU clothes in public.

Two come to mind:

#1: Driving back to Montgomery after the 2007 SECCG listening to WWL tell us about the meltdowns of Mizzou and WVU that would get us the bid for the title game. After the Arkansas game, my son had figured out exactly what had to happen to get to the BCSCG, and sure enough, all of it was happening. He and I attended the SECCG, could see Zenon's pick-six coming, and were on the top of the world.

The next day, I had to tell my kids I was going to spend the next year in Afghanistan, so my emotions were all over the place.

#2: Right after the second (and better, even though he didn't score) spectacular punt return by Matthieu in the 2011 SECCG. Finally, I had seen an LSU team that didn't let me down even once during the season. We had crushed everyone on one of the toughest schedules of all time. I was watching the best player in LSU history, whom non-LSU friends were texting me that he should win the Heisman. I was looking at the best team in SEC history.

The feeling ended when I was at a restaurant after the game watching the OU-OSU game with that damn "ESPN projects LSU will play Alabama in BCS Championship Game" crawl.
