Maybe you are right? He might have been pressing and not relaxing just playing ball. He seems like a good young man. I am happy for him.

[quote]Also, playing at LSU comes with expectations[/quote

Not only that, but we were just coming off a NC his freshman season, and he was replacing the reigning Golden Spikes Award winner and greatest player in program history. I can’t imagine that pressure. Could literally not have been higher.

Sure, pitching is much better in the SEC. But I think his success this year is probably much more mental than a lot of you have suggested.

Jay Johnson was enamored with Paxton. He has all the tools to be great. He is truly a potential 5 tool player. Arm strength, speed, defense, bat speed, power

So would you take Paxton back for '26 if he maintains this level?
If he hits .350 with 20 jacks and 70 RBIs

You absolutely take him back

He's going to go pro at that clip though. His numbers are already so damn good with his athleticism

He had 2 years and all the chances he could want to put it together at LSU. Great kid, just not good enough for the SEC. Have to make room for the guys who can contribute right away and will also develop with time.

100 percent bc he is not facing SEC pitching. I can see Penn State coming here as a 3 seed for a Regional.

I think it's all of that, but I think there also might be a chip on his shoulder that wasn't there before.

You’re right, and that’s the way it appeared. You have to make your roster decisions based on that data, not the data we have today. It finally clicked for Kling. Good for him. I hope he has a great career.

while he might, it isn't as much of a guarantee as you think...given where he is putting up those numbers. It is like single A ball compared to triple A, or the bigs.

Also, playing at LSU comes with expectations. Maybe he would have succeeded at another SEC school not named LSU. Maybe that was too much pressure to overcome
I think he came to LSU with the expectations that he would be a good player with upside to develop... and when he got here, those expectations changed to "he would become the next Dylan Crews".
And by that, I think that's what he put on himself, as much as the fans did. And that's nearly impossible to live up to.

Now, he's just trying to be Paxton Kling, and it's easier mentally.

Sam Dutton also Friday night starter and doing really well elsewhere, except IN the SEC.

That is a head-scratcher that I don't believe most saw coming, but good on him. We'll see what he has in GM 1. Scouting report should be pretty detailed with any tendencies for pitches in certain counts & situations. Nothing against Dutton, but I hope we light him up.
