Over the last 5 years, McDonnell has:

Record: 237-76
CWS appearances: 2
Bounced in Super: 2
Bounced in Regional: 1

Mainieri:

Record: 230-106
CWS appearances: 2
Bounced in Super: 2
Bounced in Regional: 1

When you look at it like this, not many people at all will stack up to Mainieri. I don't think every situation is quite and apples to apples comparison though. If you feel LSU is a better overall program than Louisville, and he did that there, then he should be able to surpass what Mainieri has done at LSU.

Nobody really knows if this is actually the case though.

Right, but the difference between LSUs resources and Louisville’s resources aren’t as great as it used to be. I think McDonnell is a good coach and would be a great candidate to replace Mainieri if a change is made, but I think people have unrealistic expectations regarding the baseball program.

He has less resources & less prestige. And it snowed in louisville just last week. It’s been cold since October.

People did this same resume’ shite with Les miles up until the day he actually got fired. It holds no merit to me. Focus on the process and not the result.

This can apply to anyone
LSU could hire Corbin (will never happen) & if they didn’t make it to CWS finals his 1st season they would want him gone

10000% agree.

100000000000000% fact. Some are just totally ignorant and don't feel like LSU should lose a game in anything, ever. You see it after basketball games too. And a small portion is just Orgeron first fans, and not really fans of LSU. They enjoy gloating about the failures of any other program. There is no point in even talking with these people, because they only are posting when they have something negative to complain about. You won't find them when anything good happens.

This doesn’t matter nearly as much as it used to.

I’m not disagreeing with you. I think Dan McDonnell is a great candidate to replace Mainieri, I just don’t think he’s a sure fire upgrade.

If we continue to underperform, you have to take a chance at some point though.

State pretty much did this and McDonnell walked out of the Louisville Baseball office to show Cohen his fat new contract to stay

Explain how that doesn’t matter

Do you think LSU & Louisville are fighting over the same kids?

I’ve seen rumblings that McDonnell has been ready to move on from Louisville but it’s also been rumored that he turned down MSU who basically offered a blank check.

He’s got a great thing going at Louisville, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s hesitant to go somewhere and start over.

I can imagine that working for Woodward would be more attractive than working for Cohen though.

And even still, that must have been a decent conversation since his former top assistant ended up taking the State job.

I live in Nashville & work in louisville frequently. I catch his coaches show sometimes & on at least 3 occasions since last CWS I have heard him bring up LSU unsolicited. It’s his gold standard.

Less than ZERO.

Have a little foresight & talk to me for a minute here

Who is the future at LSU in terms of position players?

Cabrera is the “star”, and while he is formidable, he’s a B type prospect.

Look at the Junior class. He’s the only homegrown guy left.

Soph class has guys that can’t break into the bottom of a below average lineup. Beloso is a program guy. That’s fine. But no star power.

Doughty looks like a guy in the Freshman class. They’ll lose Hampton to football eventually. Travinski & Arnold could be something in time I guess.

But where are the dudes? The state of the program in regards to position players is going to be a problem really soon. You can only patch so much with JUCO guys.

While that’s certainly something, at the end of the day, it’s just talk. Louisville is paying him and he’s built something there.

I still think getting a guy like Bakich is more likely.
