Whose at-bats would you have given to Hampton?

The kid did nothing wrong to deserve less AB that’s for damn sure.
While it’s not necessarily something he did wrong but him deciding to play football and not focus on baseball full time is something that is causing him to be behind the other guys and getting less AB’s. Although I do agree that he deserved more than 5 of them.

What did he do to earn more ABs over someone else? That’s the central issue here.
This.
Every kid at this level deserves more ABs, but who are you going to take them away from? Remember, offense and defense is important, unless you just want to use him as a pinch hitter, and even then, you have to put someone else out on defense.

Sanford 4/17. 5 SO and 1 walk.
Drost 10/34 (not bad) but 11/4 SO to BB is atrocious
I see 51 total AB right there that could easily have been reduced, especially Sanford. Need more stats or is this sample size too small. I guess the ball just pops off of Sanford’s bat better or makes that sound you can hear all over the ball park. You guys are something.

I wouldn’t play him over any of the current starting outfielders, the first or second option at DH, the first baseman, the current second baseman, or the current third baseman. Can he play short or catch?

Was given a chance with Gio hurt, started off strong and then his numbers dropped and he was replaced in the lineup. His opportunities have been few and far between with Drost showing up.
Drost has been tearing the cover off the ball. I’m not even going to get into the argument of Hampton getting his ABs.

quote:Sanford has been reduced since Drost has overtaken him for the time being, and they had both beaten out Hampton. If Drost’s strikeout numbers continue to escalate like they have over the last few games he too will likely be reduced/replaced if Digiacomo, who had also beaten out Hampton, returns to form. Drost’s first 4 ABs were better than Hampton’s using your stupid logic so there was no reason to replace him originally.

Drost and Hampton had the same number of hits over the past 6 games.

I'm not a huge PM fan, but how in the world is this his fault?
I'm not so sure that it's his fault, but for sure Hampton wants to play baseball. PM gets his feeling hurt when his players want to play another sport. it seems as if he was keep Hampton off the field because he was a two-sport guy.
Personally, I think Mo should have chosen one sport and thrived, but even as a two sport guy, you can't tell me he should be behind Bianco in paying time.

eh, I don't think he has a problem with getting a guy on full scholarship in another sport and not having to bleed into the 11.7. We haven't had a ton of dual-sport players, and of the ones we have had, there is no evidence to support Mainieri "gets his feelings hurt" when we do

he never kept Jared Mitchell off the field. Mitchell started all three years here. Even Spencer Ware started some SEC games the one year he played. Chad Jones didn't play outfield after he came back from spring practice because he had Mikie Mahtook take his spot....unless you think he should have been playing over Mahtook, Jared Kitchell. Ryan Schimpf, or Leon Landry.

these sample sizes some are using are beginning to be comical. Drost came in and wrecked in his first opportunity. He's not going to then bench the guy after a few bad games.

This is why fans should not get so tittilated over recruits who talk about playing two sports. It’s too difficult unless you are a kicker / punter

So why did he start in 2020 after only a few weeks of baseball?

The frick does this come from?

Because the other options were Wes Toups who transferred. And Bianco who hit 0.074 last year.

So the situation changed, we have much more talent at the OF positions than we did last year, and Hampton found himself behind the 8-ball after missing fall ball again.

I don't think Bianco was a centerfield option last year. Which makes playing the two most athletic positions this year even more hilarious.

He was in LF which is where Mo got his starts.
