I think our receivers group now is deeper than 2019

They're not horrible but you need to good or great WRs to win. They're 2nd or 3rd string guys, the freshmen have higher ceilings and I think one can see that right away.

Play the freshmen.

Because the replacement/freshman played better with more heart and the team seem to click better

Palmer had a touchdown against mcneese and is super fast

Straight line speed maybe. He has 0 quickness and is immediately tackled after the catch even when he has plenty of space and he fights every ball he catches. There are more athletic options.

Kirklin played well last season and his problem is academics

He’s been here for like 6 years and only has a handful of starts, that should tell you all you need to know. He had a few good games last year but again, we have better options

Jenkins also played well last season

He’s had some big drops this season, and once again, not that athletic, better options.

It was evident coach O wanted to give our promising, more athletic underclassmen some PT last night and they did not dissapoint. I hope he sticks to this

Not trying to knock on the 3 guys mentioned they’ve done great things at lsu and will still have moments where they’re called upon but I think the young guys are more explosive and give us a better shot at having a more dynamic offense

Jenkins hasn’t done shite outside of his Auburn td, he can’t catch shite. All the freshman are better than him. He doesn’t need to see the field again.

IMO the WR group is currently ranked like this:

1. Kayshon Boutte
2. Deion Smith
3. Jack Bech
4. Brian Thomas Jr.
5. Malik Nabers
6. Devonta Lee
7. Chris Hilton Jr.
8. Koy Moore
9. Jaray Jenkins
10. Jontre Kirklin
11. Trey Palmer
12. Alex Adams

As I’ve mentioned jaray Jenkins made clutch plays last season against SC, Arky, and Florida

Kirklin hasn’t played this year and

And Palmer has looked good this year especially on that touchdown against mcneese

Jaray was big for us last year down the stretch. He just needs to capitalize on his snaps this year due to the stiff competiton now.

Kirklin is talented and is a good team player, but he has never had much impact on offense when he has played and shouldn't be having academic issues in his 5th year.

Palmer has looked much better catching the ball and obviously has great speed, so he'll still be in the mix. Boutte, Smith and Bech are just more physical WRs. They will probably continue to use Palmer near the line of scrimmage due to his ability to outrun guys on short passes near the line.

Because playing them takes plays away from Thomas, Smith and Bech, who are already more talented and explosive players than Palmer Jenkins or Kirkland

I would leave Palmer in the rotation but all the younger guys play before Kirklin and Jenkins

I'm just not high on Palmer as some of you guys. After the catch he goes down way too easy and if a corner gets handsy with him at the LOS he is done. He's just not a strong WR.

Boutte is clear #1

Deion Smith has been touted by quite a few as a guy that was very underrated and should get touches

Bech may be called a TE, but he's a WR and he knows how to find the open spots and use body control to beat DBs

Hilton may be the most talented FR WR when healthy

Nabers will challenge once he settles fully on a position WR vs S

Thomas has the best catch radius and can win most contested throws

There's just a lot of talent in the FR class that once they get comfortable with the system will make it difficult for the upper classmen to get snaps

I actually agree with you about him lacking physicality. I do think he looks better than last year though so far. He has made some easy gains on short passes at or near the line of scrimmage with his speed, so it's sort of like a substitute for a running play (which we haven't been too successful running).

With that said, guys like Boutte, Smith and Bech can get LSU to another level with their athleticism and physicality.

It doesn’t matter if you are a 12th year senior. If you drop passes you play much less.

If the receivers that played consistently last night had played against UCLA, I think LSU wins that game. From what I recall, there were some crucial drops in that game.

Jenkins has dropped several passes already. He had his chance, he’s not as good as the freshman.

At this point, I want the guys that catch the ball to play. Jenkins leads the team in drops. BTJ has had a couple of costly drops as well.

Boutte is obviously #1. Bech has shown that he needs to be on the field, whether it’s at Y or TE. If Bech is playing TE, then I still think Palmer is our starter at Y. This is the most wide open role, but it wouldn’t be if we weren’t playing Bech at TE.

So then it comes down to Jenkins, Smith, and BTJ at the other outside spot. Smith had a hell of a game and is the only one of those 3 with zero drops. I don’t know how you can start Jenkins over Smith after seeing Smith’s performance last night.

Because Smith, Thomas, and Bech are better players already.

10. Jontre Kirklin
11. Trey Palmer
12. Alex Adams

Agree with this list completely.
Hilton will start to creep up when healthy.
The guys at the top are just a different level of talent.
It is what it is.
