Leave NOLA early, I'd take the Acadian/Stanford exit and park near the sorority/fraternity houses. Walk around Highland Rd, along Dalrymple Dr and the Parade Grounds. You will be invited to join tailgates.

Get there early

I'm a Boulder guy, lived there for a decade. Here's some advice. Get to campus no later than 9 am, before 8 would be better. Head to the Indian Mounds area. Just walk up to various tailgates that fit your demo and tell them your story. They will feed you and water you. The advantage of being near the Indian Mounds is you can watch the LSU team get off the us and go down the hill followed by the band. If you get tickets be in your seats about 40 minutes prior to kickoff to see all the cool video and watch the band.

CJ, you need to be at LSU and parked by 8-8:30 AM at the latest. If coming from downtown NO, that is a hour and and half trip so leave by 7 at the latest!!

That's a good question, and it depends on what all you want to experience... And I'm sure all of us LSU folks here have different routines and game day traditions.... TBH, if you arrive as early as 8AM you will probably be surprised to see the entire campus already filling up.. And you will see that the die hards (mean that in a good way) already will have their smokers and BBQs going full blast..... Personally that is my preference to soak it all in, even when it is a night game..... You cannot go wrong by being there way early, and you and the gf can always rest at different tailgates or Walk-Ons, The Chimes, or even the student union.... Enjoy! You'll be surprised how hospitable LSU tailgaters will be!!

I'd leave Nola by 7 am and that would have you parked by around 9 at the latest. Many tailgates have satellite tv, open bar, hot food, etc. LSU fans feel almost honor-bound to host out of state visitors, so share your story. Everybody here loves Colorado so that's good. The key is arriving early. If you don't get tickets you can find a tailgate with people watching the game or you can walk to Walkons or The Chimes.

How early do we need to be in town? I was thinking we'd leave New Orleans at 9, but I'm beginning to question that plan.

People get up early with beers in hand but to avoid the traffic on a 2:30 game day, I'd leave NOLA no later than 8 to allow time to seethe sites and enjoy a little longer tailgating.

Come back for a night game if possible....much better atmosphere.

What time does Walk Ons open on game day. I've never been one to just walk up to a tailgate I always just bring my beer in a disposable cooler and watch the sights.
This has been an interesting read. My brother is coming into town from GA and he just returned from a year long deployment overseas.

Help me out here folks.... I don't usually go to Walk Ons but they and The Chimes open at 9 on a game day???
Thanks to your brother for his service!! When I was on active duty in the Army my annual vacation would consist of flying back to Louisiana from either Germany, Korea or wherever the heck I was stationed to see the Tigers play. Ha Ha...

Year before last, we attempted to leave from NOLA at around 9:30 for a 2:30 kick off. We were going to watch the game at a friends tailgate. There was some traffic on the way, and then there was some TRAFFIC in Baton Rouge. We actually turned around and went to my brother in law's apartment to watch the game, because we would have never made it to the tailgate in time.

When I lived near campus, we were always at the tailgate around 7:30, just because it was easier to offload vehicles and park. I would try to be there before 8. It may seem early, but any time after that, you hit traffic and have trouble parking and you will have very little tailgate experience.

The lots near Alex Box and the Softball fields usually have a lot of parking space. The best tailgating to me is by the Indian Mounds/Lockett, and around the Parade Grounds/Peabody Hall. Watching the band walk down the hill is a great experience. If you don't get tickets to the game, find a big tailgate with TV's and make friends with them. You can watch from there. Just bring a soft cooler or something to carry beer around and you are set.

Best piece of advice, wear Colorado Univ or your favorite schools gear ( as long as it isn't another SEC school). People will bend over backwards to make sure you have a good time.

this and have girl friend wear short shorts and halter top - temp gonna be in the 90's.

There's some mother frickin sages up in here.

Not early enough..
Little tip, Siegen lane exit south turns into Burbank, it will take you to the most free parking and avoid the traffic.

9 is the absolute latest to GET to campus for the biggest game of the year. Especially for someone wanting to take everything in. Do yourself a favor and get a large cup of coffee and get on the road to BR no later than 7.

ETA: definitely wear your Stanford gear.

I would also be interested in cheap tickets to the game, but seeing as Auburn is in town, I don't have high hopes of finding any inexpensive tickets. All in all we just want to take in the atmosphere and enjoy ourselves. Thanks.

Check ticket hawks near Mike's Cage on NW side of stadium. Bargain hard and talk em down. Just note any 500 or 600 section tickets are in upper decks. Sometimes you can get row 1-2 tickets in lower bowl for cheap but you are at field level and have people standing in front of you a lot - there are jumbotrons and you will be in ground zero of the arena though...

Actually Auburn and Bama are fierce rivals! Would not be a problem this week (frick Bama though...). My daughter is bringing her boyfriend who is a Bama alum to the LSU game - he wants to see Auburn get pounded.

Like other have said, do yourself a huge favor and leave NOLA for seven. I'm leaving my house at seven and I live in BR. The traffic/parking gets exponentially worse every minute after nine.
